Tankersley Building New Race Car for ASCS Gulf South Tripleheader

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (May 12, 2015) – Channin Tankersley is busy building a new race car following a sour start to his season.

Tankersley has been caught up in a crash during three of his four races this season, including the most recent violent wreck on May 2 during an ASCS Gulf South Region event.

“It got that car really good,” he said. “I have to replace the rear end, front end, steering box, driveline, torsion arms, wings, almost all the radius rods, nerf bars and bumpers, fuel cell, hood and nose piece and two wheels. That’s hard to swallow.”

Tankersley recently received a repaired chassis back from a manufacturer. He will rebuild that car to compete in an ASCS Gulf South Region tripleheader – May 22 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas; May 23 at Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas; and May 24 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, for the 13th annual Memorial Day Classic.

“Just the front of the car was messed up so they cut where the front of the dash is and put a new clip on it,” he said. “To be honest sometimes they are faster that way.”

Tankersley doesn’t need speed as much as he needs luck. He has been racing in the top five before being involved in all three wrecks this season.

“I’ve had a pretty good last three or four years, but I guess I’m catching everything up in the first four races,” he said. “As long as I can get some good finishes and not tear a whole lot up I’ll be fine the rest of the year. I can’t continue to keep bank rolling thousands here and there though. We need to catch a couple of breaks and some luck soon.”
