Lawrence Records Top Five at Battleground with ASCS Gulf South Region

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (March 27, 2017) – Zane Lawrence earned a top-five finish last Saturday during the 10th annual Gulf Coast Nationals at Battleground Speedway.
Lawrence opened the ASCS Gulf South Region event with a low pill draw to start him on the outside of the front row in a heat race.
“We were pretty good in our heat,” he said. “(Jacob) Lucas got the jump on the start so I followed him straight to the top and ran the rest of the heat up there.”
Lawrence finished the heat race where he started – second – which garnered enough points to lock him into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 5 during the random redraw to start the main event from the fifth position.
Lawrence battled his way into the fourth position midway through the feature and he was gaining ground on third before running out of tearoffs.
“The track was super heavy and rough the whole night,” he said. “So we really couldn’t see and were pulling tearoffs every couple of laps because it was so muddy.”
Despite a sight issue because of the lack of tearoffs, Lawrence salvaged a fifth-place result.
“Despite the track being heavy, it was still pretty racy,” he said. “I think we had speed and definitely made some gains this weekend.”
Lawrence has another full weekend ahead of him as he heads to Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, on Friday and Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, on Saturday with the Sprint Car Bandits Series.
“I’m excited for this weekend,” he said. “The last time we were at Superbowl Speedway we were battling for the lead, so hopefully we can pull it off this weekend.”
