Starks Charges to Top Five at Selinsgrove and Sets New Track Record at Bedford With All Stars

Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2017) – Trey Starks had a fast, fast race car last weekend.
Unfortunately, the Gobrecht Motorsports team didn’t have any luck during an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader in Central Pennsylvania.
“In my opinion we were one of if not the fastest car at the track both nights,” Starks said. “You can be the fastest car and not win the race. You have to have everything go together. We didn’t have any of the luck part.”
Starks kicked off the weekend on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove by setting quick time during qualifying. He then advanced from fourth to second place midway through a heat race before the right front spindle broke, resulting in a DNF.
“That could have been a lot worse,” he said. “We could have had a junked race car. We got it fixed for the B Main and won that.”
Had Starks transferred through the heat race he would have made the dash, but the DNF relegated him to the B Main. He won that race to lock into the 21st starting position for the main event.
“We got ready for the A Main knowing we’d be in the back and it’d be tougher to pass,” he said. “We were really, really good. We kept passing cars and got to the point where we ran out of laps. It seemed like we were passing cars so fast that every caution put some of those cars back in front of us. It was a really fun race though. It’s a shame we didn’t get to start near the front.”
Starks maneuvered from 21st to a fifth-place finish, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Bedford Speedway, where Starks established a new track record during qualifying for the first time in his career.
“Track records are really hard to come by, especially out here in Pennsylvania,” he said. “It was cool to get the track record. I don’t think I’ve set any others.”
He then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race and from seventh to fourth place in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the second row.
“We were off to a really good start in the feature,” he said. “We got right into third and picked up second about five laps in. We were hunting down Brian Brown for the lead. We had a good shot to get the lead and win the thing, but around Lap 10 we had a mechanical problem. It was a tough pill to swallow.”
Starks was running second when the mechanical problem relegated him to a DNF. He was credited with a 23rd-place result.
Starks and the Gobrecht Motorsports team have a tripleheader on tap this weekend with races on Thursday at Susquehanna Speedway in Newberrytown, Pa.; Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Dirt Classic.
