Brady Bacon – Indiana Sprintweek Champ!

(Bill W) July 26, 2016 – Although a win escaped them, Brady Bacon and the Hoffman Racing/Dynamics, Inc. #69 team reigned as Indiana Sprintweek champs. With USAC events canceled at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois this weekend, the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver will break out the Brady Bacon Racing #99 for five shows this week. Wednesday and Thursday, he’ll compete with the MOWA series in Illinois at Peoria Speedway and Quincy Raceways. Friday through Sunday, he’ll join the National Sprint League at the $20,000 to win Barb Wieskus Classic at Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota, Knoxville Raceway in Iowa and the Hancock County Speedway near Britt, Iowa.

Consistency was the key for Brady in winning the Indiana Sprintweek championship. “It certainly wasn’t the Sprintweek we were hoping for, but it was kind of an odd week for everyone,” he says. “The first two races at Gas City and Kokomo, we had some problems in the feature and recovered from them. That’s pretty much what won us the championship.”

He came back from adversity in those two events. “We slid off the track at Gas City running second,” says Brady. “We came back on the track and got back to fifth. We got in a pileup in Kokomo. We went to the back and came back to fifth, so we had a really good car the first two nights.”

A seventh place finish at Lawrenceburg and an eleventh at Putnamville followed. “The rest of the week, we just kind of stayed consistent,” says Brady. “We had some bad draws the first half of the week, and we were able to avoid disaster in qualifying. We qualified well at Bloomington. The car was rolling well and we were able to get by Dave (Darland) on the last lap for second.”

Brady finished Sprintweek with a seventh place run at Haubstadt and a fourth at Terre Haute. “We were able just to stay up where we needed to at Haubstadt,” he says. “The last night at Terre Haute, we were really good. We would have liked to have gotten some wins that week, but it didn’t happen. We were able to come out with good finishes most nights.”

He continued to impress last weekend at the two-night Dirt Classic with the All Stars at Kokomo in his #99. “We got a new motor from Shane Gray Motorsports, a Pro Stock NHRA team,” he says. “They built a sprint car motor and they’re letting me test it out for them. We were quick time the first night out at Kokomo. It’s really strong and we’re looking forward to running it this week and then at the Knoxville Nationals. We’re excited about that.”

On Friday, Brady would go from eighth to fourth in the Dash, giving him a starting spot outside row two. “Friday, we just seemed to get caught up,” he says. “When someone messed up, it was in front of us and we ended up losing a couple spots. Still, we finished fifth with a car that I felt was capable of the podium.”

Saturday started with a heat win. He would start third in the feature. “Saturday, we just got a little too tight,” says Brady. “The track was rougher than we thought it was going to be. It was a little too tight to run the bottom. We finished sixth. With 37 cars there, to contend for a win both nights if we got everything right…you can’t complain about that.”
