Andrew Ferguson Claims First Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified Win On A-Verdi Storage Containers Night

By Hannah Doll

BREWERTON, NY (May 25, 2023)- Friday evening, Brewerton Speedway drew a capacity crowd and full pit area for side-by-side racing action presented by A-Verdi Storage Containers, kicking off Memorial Day Weekend activities.

Last night's feature winners included Danny Varin (Empire Super Sprints), Andrew Ferguson (Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds), Zach Sobotka (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman), and Kyle Demo (AmeriCU Mod Lites).

Andrew Ferguson and Chris Hulsizer paced the field to the Comfort Windows restart zone, setting the field for an adrenaline-rushing 35-lap feature event. Hulsizer would grab the early race lead with Ferguson right on his bumper. On lap 2, the caution would come out, stacking the field once again for another restart.

Hulsizer quickly gained the advantage on the ensuing restart and would set a torrid pace with Ferguson in tow. The two would race that way for the bulk of the 35-lap grind with Hulsizer using the extreme low side of the speedway while Ferguson searched the middle and top for a way by.

Lapped cars would prove to be Ferguson's friend as he executed a near-perfect pick-and-roll on Hulsizer on lap 32 and drove away to pick up his first career Tracey Roads DIRTcar Modified win.

Hulsizer would settle for a disappointing career best runner-up finish, with Alan Fink rounding out the final podium position. Sixth-place starter Kevin Root would come in fourth, with Brandon Carvey rounding out the top five.

In the Empire Super Sprints event, Danny Varin delivered an incredible performance, leading every lap of the caution-filled race. While Varin dominated, the rest of the top-10 was ever-changing throughout the 25-lap sprint. Larry Wight made a charge through the field, advancing from seventh to eventually secure a second-place finish, with Shawn Donathy coming in third to round out the podium. Jason Barney would make his way through the top ten to claim fourth place. Meanwhile, Chad Phelps had a fantastic run, starting from the 21st position and fighting his way through the stacked field to round out the top five. earning the Hard Charger.

With a drag race down the front stretch to the checkered, Zach Sabotka picked up the win in the companion DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman Feature by just .025 seconds over Cody Manitta. Nick Root would cross the line in third, with eleventh-place starter Tony Finch following in fourth. Veteran Mike Button would round out the top 5.

Kyle Demo picked up his first win in the AmeriCU Mod Lite feature of the season, holding off second-place finisher Joe Isabell. Joseph Garafolo, Matt Kitts, and Zack Babcock round out the top 5.
