Tim Sears Jr. Triumphs on Haun Welding Supply Night
By Hannah Doll
BREWERTON, NY (July 14, 2024)- Friday night, Brewerton Speedway treated fans and a pit full of race teams with an evening filled with side-by-side racing action. Rebounding from a destroyed race car the week before, Tim Sears Jr.'s luck turned around as he drove from the tenth starting spot to pick up his first Brewerton feature win of the season on Haun Welding Supply night.
Other feature winners on Haun Welding Supply night included Tucker Halliday (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman), Chris Bonoffski (Mirabito DIRTcar 4-Cylinder Super Stocks), Kyle Demo (AmeriCU Mod Lites), and Aaron Pugh (Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour).
Jim Witko Jr. and Matt Meade paced the Tracey Road Modified field to the Comfort Windows firing point, bringing the field to green for the 35-lap feature event that would go caution free.
Meade grabbed the early race lead, with fourth starter Chris Mackey getting around Witko Jr. for second. Reeling in on the leader, Mackey would switch lanes to the high-side on lap 5 to clear Meade for the lead.
As Mackey drove out to a lengthy lead, Sears charged his way to the front with precision. In the first 13 laps, Sears Jr. worked his way up to third, and began hunting down second place. On lap 27, Sears Jr. took over second from Meade and began reeling in Mackey with six laps to go.
With laps winding down, Mackey encounter lap traffic, allowing Sears Jr. to use that as an advantage. With field coming around to the white flag, Sears Jr. would use a power move off 3 & 4 clearing Mackey and taking home the win.
Mackey would settle for a disappointing runner-up finish with Sean Beardsley rounding out the podium. Matt Meade would come in fourth with Witko Jr. recording his best run of the year with a fifth-place finish.
For the first time in his career, Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman Rookie Tucker Halliday picked up the Dot Foods Sportsman feature win over fourteenth starter Cody Manitta. Tony Finch II crossed the line in third, followed by Stephen Marshall in fourth. Joe Trichilo rounded out the top 5.
Chris Bonoffski picked up another Mirabito 4-Cylinder Super Stock feature win, his third in a row, holding off second-place finisher Justin Guyle. Jock Symonds, Taylor Doxtater, and Clayton Koch completed the top 5.
Kyle Demo grabbed his second AmeriCU Mod Lite feature win of the season over Justin Williams. Ninth starter Zack Babcock crossed in the third, with eleventh starter Doug Williams in the fourth. Joseph Garafolo rounding out the top 5.
Making their first appearance of the season, Aaron Pugh took home the Dirt Modified Nostalgia feature event. Ian Gordon, Joe August, Mike Nagel Sr., and Casey Doll complete the top 5.
