Inside Line Promotions – MEEKER, Okla. (Oct. 16, 2017) – Zane Hendricks captured a top-10 finish with the Driven Midwest USAC NOW600 National Micro Series last Saturday at Red Dirt Raceway during the opening night of the Meeker 500.

The night began with a heat race victory thanks to a solid start from his third starting position.

“I was able to get underneath the front row in the turn and took the lead going down the backstretch on the first lap,” he said. “I pulled away a bit and won by about half a straightaway. Most of the drivers were running the bottom, but I moved up higher on the track and found some moisture up there.”

Hendricks started sixth in the A Main and planned to run a similar line to the one that carried him to the heat race win.

“We went down a gear for the feature because we were turning the engine way more than we wanted to in the heat,” he said. “Unfortunately, they watered the top of the track before the feature. I ran the top for a few laps, but it was way too greasy. I eventually hit a really bad spot and slid up almost to the wall. I was running fourth then, but about four or five cars got by me so I dropped to about eighth or ninth. After that, I went to the bottom of the track and passed some cars, even though we didn’t have the right gear in to run the bottom.”

Hendricks settled for a sixth-place finish.

“It was only a 20-lap race and there weren’t any restarts so it was tough getting to the front,” he said.

Rain forced the postponement of Sunday’s racing program. The $1,000-to-win main event will be rescheduled for early in the 2018 racing season.

“We finished in the top 10 so that locks us into the big race next year,” he said.

Hendricks will hop back into his midget this Saturday at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Okla., for the Twister Nationals with the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midgets Series. He enters the weekend ranked fifth in the championship standings with only three series races remaining.
