S&R Automotive Night Wins To Power, Harmer Jr, Desormeau III, Nier & Sandercock

LAFARGEVILLE, NY - The racing action was intense this past Friday night at the Can-Am Speedway on S&R Automotive night. The DIRTcar 358 Modifieds had the night off, but the Gillee's NAPA/Gillee's Lubricants-CITGO Lubricants RUSH Crate Models were on hand for their 3rd appearance of the season and fans were treated to some great racing.

The FX Caprara Honda-DIRTcar Sportsman hit the track for their 20 lap feature and the red flag would fly before the competition of lap one. A big pile up involving a number cars stopped the event. When the race was restarted, front row starters Joel Hall and Gavin Eisele lead the fieild to green. Hall grabbed the lead and set the pace over the first seven laps, first being chased by Eisele, then Chris Thruston then Andrew Wren. Wren would take over the top spot on lap 8 and the two leaders would battle lap after lap for the lead. Hall was again the leader on lap 14 but Wren was back in front one lap later. Jessica Power was the car on the move though and with just 3 laps to go made the move past Wren and went on for the win, Wren was second followed by Hall, Jack Meeks and Josh Reome.

Again this week the FABCO-Pro Street Stock feature would be the Sid Harmer Jr., Shawn Kirby show. Rick Dusckas was shown as the leader of lap one but Harmer Jr. was to the front quickly this week and took over the lead on lap 2. Kirby made his way to the runner-up spot by lap 3 and the race was on for checkers. As hard as Kirby tried he was not going top Harmer Jr. who grabbed the win over Kirby, Sid Harmer Sr., Dusckas and Mike Durham.

The TLC Real Estate/Agent Marsha Gibbons-Thunder Cars are never to be out done at Can-Am. Zach Stone came from the third starting spot to lead lap one taking the top spot away from front row starters Jerry Rogers and Phil Desormeau III. Stone opened up a small lead but Desormeau was right there in the second spot with Mike Greenfield pressuring the lead two. Stone looked to be on his way to a win but Desormeau had other ideas and took the advantage away on lap 8. Stone and then Joe Orvis would keep the pressure on but Desormeau battled his way to the win over Orvis, JR Durham, Greenfield and Stone.

The Rookie Sportsman took to the fast 1/2 mile with Justin Nier and Trevor Halladay setting the pace. The Rookie division usually puts on a caution free show every week and this week would be no different. Nier cruised to the win over Scott Mallette, Halladay, Kevin Warren and Johnathan Murphy

The Gillee's NAPA/Gillee's Lubricants-CITGO Lubricants RUSH Crate Late Models made their 3rd appearance of the season and everyone was out to beat 2 time winner Charlie Sandercock. Chris Fleming and Kyle Sopaz held the front row and Sopaz showed he was up to the challenge of trying to beat Sandercock. Sopaz looked strong, leading the first 11 laps but Sandercock found his groove and motored past for the lead on lap 12. Sandercock pulled away over the final 8 laps and made it 3 for 3 this year at Can-Am. Fleming came back to finish second ahead of Sopaz, Sean Beardsley and Andy Mayhew.

Next Friday night will be Law Enforcement Appreciation night at the Speedway, all Law enforcement personnel from both sides of the border will be admitted free with proper ID. FABCO and the Whitesboro Plow Shop, two of our great division supporters will be sponsoring the nights racing activities as the DIRTcar 358 Modifieds return. Make plans for the special events coming up at Can-Am before the season comes to an end. The Empire Super Sprints will again invade Can-Am on August 10th, followed by the popular Family Autograph night on the 17th. The Chlidren’s Miracle Network will also be joining the fun on the 17th to enjoy a night at the races. The 2018 season will come to an end with a weekend of exciting dirt track racing on September 7th and 8th with 6 different divisions in competition over the 2 day event.
