CAN-AM WINS TO DUNN, HAMM, KIRBY AND PETRIE COLAGIOVANNI PICK UP ESS WIN

Even though mother nature tried to put an end to the nights racing with a heavy rain storm around 3:00, track owner Tyler Bartlett was determined to get the show in with the empire Super Sprints in town.  As soon as the rain stopped, crews were on the track to get the 1/2 mile clay oval in shape.  It took hours to get the sticky surface to come around but once it did, the racing was lightning fast.  Even with the weather slowing things down, when hot laps hit the track, fans knew they would be treated to the quickest speeds of the season.

In ESS Sprint practice, the times were in the 15 second bracket, with Matt Tanner turning a 15.673, averaging over 114mph.  The race track was not only extremely quick, but stayed very smooth and drivers took advantage of the wide racing groove.

Joel Hall and Tyler Meeks sat on the front row of the Whitesboro Plow Shop-DIRTcar 358 Modified 25 lap feature and Meeks was quick to jump to the early lead.  A couple of quick yellows wouldn't allow Meeks to gain an advantage and by lap 4 point leader Billy Dunn had raced his way from the 8th starting spot, around Meeks and into the lead.  As usual, once Dunn gets the lead at Can-Am he is tough to beat, and this night would be no different. Dunn went on for the win to extend his point lead over his closest competitor in the points chase, Ryan Arbuthnot, Meeks, Mike Maresca
and Dave Rogers.

The FX Caprara Honda-DIRTcar Sportsman has been very competitive this season with 8 different winners and front row starters Jamie Brown and Remington Hamm were looking to add the winners list.  Hamm charged into the lead at the completion of lap 1 with Dalton Rombough and Gavin Eisele taking Chase.  Hamm was quick but Rombough would not let him get away and tried both high and low to get by Hamm, lap after lap.  While the top two battled for the lead, the racing was intense behind them.  At the half way point it was Hamm, Rombough, Brian Hudson, Jack Meeks and Josh Reome in the top 5. Rombough was able pull along side for the top spot but Hamm wouldn't be denied and went on for his first ever DIRTcar Sportsman win over Rombough, Meeks, Hudson and Taylor Caprara.

The FABCO-Pro Street Stocks put on a great show every week and has seen the point battle come down to father and son, Rick Dusckas and Shawn Kirby.  Front row starters Tyler Bushey and Lee Miller were hoping to mix that up and grab a win.  Miller looked strong early and jumped out to an early lead but it was point leader Kirby who charged up to the second spot and began to run down the leader.  Miller was able to fight off the challenges but on lap 8 Kirby found a way around and into the top spot.  One lap later Dusckas was shown in the second position and the battle between the 2 was again on.  Kirby would go on for another win over Dusckas, Bushey, Steven Gilmore and Ryan Shanahan.

The TLC Real Estate/Agent Marsha Gibbons-Thunder Stocks were brought to the green by Ray Graffam and Chuck Monica.  Monica is strong every week and was shown as the leader of lap one, but point leader Zac Petrie had moved into the number 2 spot and took chase.  Petrie has been the car to beat this season and by lap 3 was had got by Monica and began to open up a lead over the rest of the field.  Petrie went on for the win and extended his point lead, Monica held on for second with Justin Pope, Joe Orvis and Jesse Bender completing the top 5.

The Empire Super Sprints made their 2nd of 3 visits this season and they showed the fans the speed these winged warriors have when the track comes in smooth and tacky.  Matt Tanner not only was quickest in practice but looked like the car to beat in the 25 lap feature.  The sprinters were still turning laps in the low 16 second bracket during the main with Tanner and July 3rd winner Paulie Colagiovanni showing the way.  The race was red flagged for a wild double flip involving front runners Jason Barney and Shawn Donath.  Both drivers were okay but their cars were not so fortunate.  When racing resumed it was Tanner and Colagiovanni fighting for the lead with Danny Varin and Billy VanInwegen waging a fierce side by side battle for 3rd and 4th. Things happen quick with the sprinters and Colagiovanni ran down Tanner, took the lead and went on for his second win in as many visits to Can-Am in 2019.  Tanner came across in second followed by VanInwegen, Josh Pieniazek and Varin.

Next week is a fan favorite at the speedway with Family Autograph Night and the 2nd annual Backpack Giveaway .  Drivers and the cars will be brought down onto the front straightaway during intermission so the fans can come down and get a close up look at the cars, talk with their favorite drivers and get autographs.  Many of the drivers will have driver cards to hand out as well as candy and other items.  Drivers, fans and sponsors will also be donating backpacks to distribute to the kids in attendance.  Last year over 200 backpack were donated, many filled with school supplies and other giveaways.  Children's Miracle Network will be on hand and set up behind the main grandstands talking with the fans about their great organization, $1 from every general admission ticket will be donated to CMN.  Gates will open at 5:00 with the first green of the evening waving at 7:30.  Follow us on Facebook at Can-Am Speedway or call the office at 315-876-3478.
