Kay keeps Deery streak alive at Tipton
TIPTON, Ia. – Justin Kay of Wheatland scored his fifth straight Deery Brothers Summer Series victory at Cedar County Raceway on Saturday night. Kay started sixth and passed race leader Andy Eckrich after a lap twelve restart.
Kay led the remainder of the 50-lap main for the win. Justin is now unbeaten at Tipton Deery events since 2014.
Eckrich held on to finish second. Jeremiah Hurst took third over Tyler Bruening and Ryan Dolan. Late Model heat race wins went to Ryan Dolan, Matt Ryan, Dalton Simonsen, and Justin Kay. BJ Jackson and Chad Holladay won the B-Mains. Thirty-six late models were on hand for the Deery Brothers 2019 season opener.
Dunkerton, Iowa racer Troy Cordes led all twenty laps of the Modifed feature and took home the trophy. Cayden Carter closed in on Cordes late in the race, but was unable to mount a challenge for the lead. Carter finished second, with Jeff Aikey third. Wisconsin’s Mike Mullen and Justin Kay rounded out the top five. Kay, Carter, and Chris Zogg won the Modified heats
Jeff Struck Jr led flag-to-flag in Street Stock action. This is his second win in as many nights.
Cary Brown finished second. Joe Bonney and Johnny Spaw fought a battle for the third spot with Spaw getting the position. Jesse Owen finished fifth
Brandon Setser held off all challenges en route to victory in the SportMod feature. Tony Olson climbed his way to a second place finish. Shane Paris finished third, ahead of Austin Heacock and Gage Neal.
The American Iron Racing Series completed the program with Matt Hudspeth scoring the win. Ron Barker finished second. RJ Lank, Dan Kessler, and Mike Arp finished third through fifth in that order.
The next events for DRT TRAK Racing are a Lucas Oil double dip. Friday, May 3rd, the racing action is at the Davenport Speedway, on the quarter-mile oval. Saturday, May 4th, the series travels to West Liberty Raceway for a date with the half-mile.
