Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway is gearing up for yet another busy stretch to their 2016 season. The historic ¼-mile clay oval will be hosting three races in four nights. It all begins with Kage Kart racing on Friday July 1st. Then the action continues on Saturday the 2nd for T-Shirt Night before things wrap up on Independence Day, Monday the 4th, for Speedweek Northwest with a massive fireworks display capping off the whole evening.
For the Kart races General Admission is FREE and Pit Passes are $10.00 and Car and Driver fees will be $35.00. The Pit Gate will open up around 4:00 PM and the Pit Meeting is at 6:00 PM with Hot Laps and Racing to follow.
On Saturday July 2nd it is T-Shirt Night. This means if you wear a Cottage Grove Speedway T-Shirt/Sweatshirt, or CGS special events shirts (i.e. Wallbanger Cup or Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic), you get into the race for just $5.00. Classes in action include Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Quality RV Repair Hornets.
Times for Saturday are Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing is scheduled to start around 6:30. Tickets are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors $10.00, Youth (6-12) - $5.00, Family Pass $30.00, and Children 5 or under are FREE. The Clark Printing Extreme Sprints are back in action after a few weeks off. Patrick Dills and Dusty Redmond are tied with the most wins of the season in 2016 with two each. Dave Hibbard and Ricky Ashley have managed to win one a piece.
The IMCA Modifieds have been quite busy over the last month. Mark Wauge still has the most victories in the current campaign, at three, but is being caught by drivers who have won twice, Collen Winebarger and Jake Mayden. Single race winners include Jesse Williamson, Kellen Chadwick, Craig Hanson, Kinzer Cox, and Curtis Towns.
The Street Stock race scheduled for Saturday will be a non-point affair. Chris Sine is the only driver to have won twice. Kevin Williamson and 2016 Wallbanger Cup victor Kyle Yeach have recorded a single win each.
Joe Maricle has been the guy to beat in the Quality RV Repair Hornets. Maricle has won the past two events to bring his total amount of victories to five. Josh Corley has an impressive four while Brad Moffett and K.C. Scott have one.
Then on Independence Day, Monday July 4th, the 360 Sprints returns for Speedweek Northwest. This event will feature some of the best 360 drivers on the planet and will see them come from all over the United States as well as Canada and New Zealand. In addition to the 360’s the IMCA Modifieds and Street Stocks will play the role as the support class. Once all of the racing has completed there will be a massive fireworks display.
There have been just a handful of 360 Sprint races at CGS this year and Roger Crockett is the only pilot to have won twice in 2016. Trey Starks and this year’s Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic winner Jason Solwold are one-time winner’s circle visitors this year.
