Cottage Grove, Oregon- The Wild West Modified Shootout returned to Cottage Grove Speedway on Monday, June 26th, for another round of racing action. It would mark the fourth round of the 2017 schedule and the second straight night at CGS. Forty-one cars would fill the pits from the states of Oregon, California, Nevada, and Montana as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Medford’s Mark Wauge jumped out the early race lead. Wauge set a wicked fast pace with the only thing slowing him down being a few cautions. Shortly after a lap sixteen restart he would feel a lot of pressure from John Campos.

Campos, out of Keizer, would complete the pass on lap nineteen to obtain the coveted position. A final lap twenty-nine caution, for debris, would bunch the field up one last time. On the ensuing restart John would keep his mount in front of the rest of the field and became the fourth different winner in as many night with the tour. It marked the first career win for Campos and is the eighteenth different winner with the WWMT.

Eugene’s Jesse Williamson would rally to a second-place finish over third finishing Curtis Towns, out of Cottage Grove. Mark Wauge ended his evening fourth while Jake Mayden for the second straight night came out of the consolation feature to get fifth. Unfortunately, during postrace tech Curtis Towns was disqualified giving third to Wauge, fourth to Mayden, and Albany ace Bricen James inherited fifth. Consolation feature winners were Mayden and James.

In the first heat races they would be won by Ethan Dotson, Jesse Williamson, Curtis Towns, Collen Winebarger, and Danny Lauer. Second round heat winners were Dotson, D.J. Shannon, Towns, Jeremy Shank, and Jeff Lovell.

Tuesday, June 27th will be a night off for the Wild West Modified Shootout before it returns to action on Wednesday the 28th at Banks’ Sunset Speedway Park. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will wrap things up with a three-way finale at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon.
