Cox, J. Campos, Duty, And Langan Get CGS Ladies Night Wins
Cottage Grove, Oregon- Saturday, July 9th, was Ladies Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. Four divisions were on the card at the historical ¼-mile oval. They included 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, and Street Stocks.
Kinzer Cox was the class of the field in the 360 Sprint feature. The Cottage Grove chauffer seized the point on the opening start. After that, the race went uninterrupted for twenty-seven laps with Cox firmly in charge.
On the lone restart, Harrisburg's Tyler Thompson submitted a serious bid to overtake Kinzer, but Cox withstood the attempt. Nevertheless, Kinzer Cox held on to procure his second straight win in the division.
Tyler Thompson finished second while grabbing third would be Kyle Alberding from Roseburg. Roseburg racers Jake Waddell and Matt Hein, in the Brett Smith-owned entry, were fourth and fifth in the finishing order.
Austin McTaggart showed the way in the early goings of the IMCA Modified main event. The Springfield driver eventually was overtaken by John Campos. The only caution of the whole race came out on lap twelve.
Shortly after the restart, the Keizer veteran of Campos would be under heavy fire. Cottage Grove's Curtis Towns, piloting the Frank Brewer-fielded machine, took control of the point on lap thirteen only to have Campos make it back around him on the following circuit.
John Campos held on to win the race. It is the first time he has won at CGs this year. Jake Mayden, from Springfield, beat Curtis Towns for the runner-up position. Paul Rea of Eugene placed fourth, while Springfield's Steven Sturdevant was credited with fifth.
In Late Model competition, John Duty took care of things. First, the Molalla motorist had to hunt down Springfield's Mike Miller to obtain P1. Then, Duty had to deal with three stoppages in the race's second half but held on to earn the victory.
Mike Miller was second, while Sweet Home's Kye Frick earned third. Larry Rametes, from Dayton, got fourth over fifth finishing B.J. Donofrio of Salem.
Lastly, in the Street Stocks, Creswell native Brad Hicks took control of the point. He would be passed shortly after a restart. Jasper's Andrew Langan was the pilot to navigate his way around Hicks.
Langan, racing for car owner Josh Linville, had to keep a pair of challengers in check and managed to hold on for the triumph. It is the first time he has won this year at "The Grove". Lebanon's Dalton Bloom was a close second, with Taunton Swaim, of Dexter, behind him in third. The rest of the top five consisted of Cottage Grove driver Eric Freeman and Chloe Van Sant from Eugene.
Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, July 16th, for the Ralph Bloom Memorial for The Royalty Core Custom Grille & Truck Parts IMCA Northern SportMods and Christmas In July for everyone else. There will be a special $10.00 general admission. Other classes on the card include the Todd's Auto Body Limited Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, and Street Stocks.
