Hunter Bloom Wins Ralph Bloom Memorial; Cox, Rea, And T. Swaim Also Earn CGS Christmas In July Victories
Cottage Grove, Oregon- Saturday, July 16th, was Christmas In July Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. It also was the Ralph Bloom Memorial for the Royalty Core Custom Grill and Truck Parts IMCA Northern SportMods. Other divisions on the docket were the Todd’s Auto Body Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, and Street Stocks.
The Royalty Core Custom Grill and Truck Parts IMCA Northern SportMods hosted one of their biggest nights of the whole year for the race run in honor of the late Ralph Bloom. When all the dust had settled, Hunter Bloom parked his mount in victory lane and won his first race of the season. The victory also kept the trophy in the Bloom family name.
Salem’s Trevor Points beat out Matt Sanders, of Brookings, for second. Justin Ryker, from Cottage Grove, posted a fourth-place result over fifth-finishing Springfield chauffer Daniel Ray.
Kinzer Cox parked the Brian Crockett-owned entry in victory lane in the Todd’s Auto Body Sprint Car main event. It’s his second win of the year in the class and fourth overall 2022 CGS triumph for the Cottage Grove racer. Junction City veteran Shane Forte was the runner-up, followed by David Marble of Shady Cove. Teenagers Austin Sause from Coos Bay and Klamath Fall’s Ryan Hirschbock were fourth and fifth.
For the third time in the year, Paul Rea emerged victorious in the IMCA Modified competition. The Eugene native collected his first win since April 23rd. Jake Mayden, from Springfield, got second, while in third would be Cottage Grove’s Curtis Towns in the Frank Brewer-fielded car. Steven Sturdevant of Springfield ended his night fourth, while Hornbrook, California traveler Duane Orsburn completed the top five in fifth.
Taunton Swaim of Dexter bested the field in the Street Stocks. It is the third time he has won at Cottage Grove in the current campaign. Jasper’s Andrew Langan, driving for car owner Josh Linville, hit the line second with Dalton Bloom, of Lebanon, in third. Cottage Grove driver Eric Freeman and Mike Swaim, also of Dexter, were fourth and fifth.
Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, July 23rd, for the Virgil Hanson Memorial Logger’s Cup. It’s the biggest Late Model race of the season at Cottage Grove.
