Nezworski, Diercks, and Soppe top Davenport feature winners

DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 12, 2020) – With six classes of racing and over 130 cars in the pits, it was another busy night of racing at the Davenport Speedway. When it was all over, four drivers made their first trip to Hoker Trucking victory lane in 2020.

Andy Nezworski was the winner in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature that went green for all twenty-five laps. The race started with Gary Webb leading the first seven laps before yielding to Dave Wada. Wada’s lead would be short-lived as Nezworski took the lead on lap eleven. Matt Ryan gave chase down the stretch, but could not get within striking distance. Wada held on for a third place finish. Joe Zrostlik and Jacob Waterman rounded out the top five. Ryan and Justin Kay won late model heat races.

The IMCA late model class at Davenport has yet to see a repeat winner in 2020.

The Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds also went caution-free in their feature. The race came down to a battle between Spencer Diercks and Bryce Garnhart. Both started the main in the fourth row. Garnhart got to the lead first, but Diercks was one of the first to go to the high side and quickly took over the top spot. Garnhart followed Diercks to the top and the pair rode around the high side, lap after lap. Diercks captured his first feature win on the Davenport quarter-mile track with Garnhart a close second.

Chris Zogg finished a distant third followed by Ryan Duhme and Matt Werner. Garnhart, Duhme, and Eric Barnes were heat winners. Werner and Mitch Morris won the B-Mains.

A full field of IMCA SportMods saw Tyler Soppe drive to victory. Soppe passed Jeremy Gustaf after a lap five restart en route to the win. Late race cautions scrambled the field behind the leader. Logan Veloz would finish second and Shane Paris third. Kevin Goben qualified in the B-Mains but finished fourth. Jarrett Franzen recorded a fifth place result.

Soppe, Gustaf, and Ben Chapman won SportMod heat races. B-Main victories went to Brandon Jewell and Paul Howard.

Jeff Struck Jr. collected another feature win in Koehler Electric Street Stock action. Struck grabbed the lead from Rick Schriner after a lap three restart and never looked back. Joe Bonney started ninth on his way to a second place finish. Nick Hixson, Erick Turner, and Donnie Louck were third through fifth respectively

Joe Lafrenz led flag to flag to capture his second straight QCjeeps.com Sport Compact feature. Shawn McDermott kept a close second and an attempt at a green-white-checkered finish made the finish interesting. Brad Chandler charged on the high side to finish third. Levi Heath and Cameron Poci completed the top five.

Mod Lites made an appearance at the speedway on Friday night. Fifteen of the little speedsters were on hand to compete. Mike Zemo Jr. blistered the competition in the main. Despite several cautions that restacked the field, Zemo would pull away on every restart. Jon Padilla finished second, followed by Jason Masengarb. Rob Guss and Michael Dominguez were fourth and fifth respectively.
