Chad Holladay was the top qualifier when he stopped the watch at 14.216 seconds. The night’s four heat races were taken by Jonathan Brauns, Fred Remley, Derrick Stewart, and Jaden Freyer.
After two B-features were won by Jeff “Bone” Larson and newcomer Jesse Glenz, a 24-car field was assembled to close out the night in the 35-lap main event. Chad Holladay jumped from the lead and was in command for the first six laps before a caution came out on lap seven.
On the ensuing restart, Jason Hahne ran around the low side and took the lead from Holladay. The Webster City, Iowa driver went on to lead the front runners into lapped traffic. This would be a key part of the race as Spencer Diercks was closing in on Hahne for the race lead.
Diercks would try to make his move on the low side but unfortunately made contact with a lapped car and spun out bringing out the caution flag. He would finish 23rd.
When racing resumed, Hahne continued to lead while Justin Kay made his way toward the front. With 15 laps remaining, Kay nosed ahead of Hahne to take the lead. He would secure the lead off turn two the next lap and would never looked back.
Kay went on to take home the $3,000 payday making it his third-straight win at Davenport and his 10th win all-time with the series tying him with Justin and Corey Zeitner, who both got their 10th series wins the weekend before.
Jason Hahne had to settle for second while Jeff Larson charged from 17th to finish third. Jeff Aikey came in fourth after a spirited battle with Chad Holladay who rounded out the top five.
The Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series continues it’s Memorial Day weekend swing on Saturday with its annual trip to the Maquoketa Speedway in Maquoketa, Iowa. Then, the series finishes out the weekend on Sunday with the tour’s return to the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque.
