Area Schools Benefit from Bus Races, Fans on their Feet During Features

Spring Valley MN  - May 17, 2014:  (Photos courtesy of Gulbranson Photo)  A great crowd was on hand tonight for the racing action and the exciting school bus racing at the Speedway. It was great to see a ton of kids on hand and with great racing in all classes. Tonight's racing action was presented by Johnston Auto Stores.

After all the preliminary racing action was completed the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds pulled onto the track for their feature event. After a complete restart Josh Crary jumped into the early lead out of turn two but Cory Crapser had other plans and powered by into the lead going into turn three. Jason Born quickly moved into the second spot as Crary and Jared Boumeester now battled for third. With four complete Crapser was pulling away up front as the battle for second heated up as Born was joined by Crary and Boumeester for the runner up spot. Another caution on lap five saw Crapser out front with Born and Boumeester racing for second. Dustin Scott worked into fourth as another caution flew on lap seven. Crapser again led with Scott now taking over the second spot on the restart. Crapser and Scott put on a show over the next three laps exchanging slide jobs in each corner as the battled for the lead. Crapser took control of the event on lap eleven and took home the win. Scott came home second followed by Boumeester, Crary and Tim Myhre. Heat race action was won by Scott, Crapser and Jacob Bleess.

Troy Voth led out of turn two on the start of the Six Two Graphics WISSOTA Street Stock feature event. Kyle King took over the lead out of turn four to lead lap one of the feature event. On the next lap King lost the handle on his machine leading out of four bringing out a caution. On the restart Voth and King battled for the top spot. Voth took the top spot as another caution flew with five down. Voth led on the restart with Noah Grinstead making a hard charge and moving into the second spot. Mike Blowers started to pressure King for the third spot and with six down Blowers drove above King and then under Grinstead to take over the second spot. Blowers wasn't done then and on lap seven worked around Voth to take over the top spot. Grinstead worked past Voth for the runner up spot on lap eleven. At the finish it was Blowers, Grinstead, Voth, Bernie Adams and King in the top five. Heat races were won by Shaun Mann, Voth and Grinstead.

The Elma Performance and Fabricating USRA B-Modifieds were on the track next with Jacob Bleess, Alex Williamson and Brandon Hare racing three wide for the lead. Cory Crapser quickly joined the battle to make it a four wide race until a caution flew on lap two. On the restart Hare took the advantage. Bleess and Williamson raced for second. Bleess took over the second spot and then by lap six had moved under Hare to lead the field. A caution on lap eight saw Bleess leading with Erik Kanz Battling for the second spot while Cole Queensland moved into fifth after starting twentieth on the field.   Kanz and Williamson touched while racing for third slowing their momentum and allowing Queensland to move into the third spot. With ten down Queensland moved past Hare for the second spot and set sail for the leader out front. Queensland caught Bleess on lap sixteen and pulled alongside but was unable to make a pass for the lead as the laps counted down. At the finish it was Bleess with the win; Queensland finished a hard fought second with Hare, Williamson and Kylie Kath rounding out the top five. Heat race action was won by AJ. Zvorak, Bleess and Kylie Kath.

Jeff Brauer and Dave Wiersgalla battled early for the lead in the Wagner Trucking WISSOTA Super Stock feature event. Wiersgalla was credited with leading the first three laps with Brauer taking over the top spot on lap four.   Brian Fetting moved under Jon Duffy on lap five to take over the fourth spot behind Kevin Hager in third. Fetting moved into the third spot on lap six and after clearing Hager for the third spot moved up to race with Wiersgalla on lap eight. The two raced side by side for the second spot on lap eight until Fetting took control of the position. Duffy worked past Hager to move into the fourth spot. Duffy moved past Wiersgalla on lap twelve for the third spot while up front, Fetting was quickly gaining on Brauer up front.   On lap fifteen the two were side by side at the line.  Fetting led lap sixteen and seventeen but Brauer was not giving up without a fight and moved back into the lead on lap eighteen. An almost dead heat as the white flew but Brauer got a good run out of two and lead into three. Unfortunately for Brauer his mount pushed up the hill out of turn four and Fetting got a great run out of turn four to nip Brauer at the line for the win. Wiersgalla won the heat race earlier in the night.

Lucas Schott jumped out front early on during the NAPA AutoCare USRA Modified feature. Jacob Dahle ran in second early with Josh Angst and Keith Foss battling for the third spot. A caution after lap one saw Schott leading with Angst and Foss still battling for the position although now it was for second and they worked past Dahle. Foss gained the spot and slowly caught up to Schott up front. Further back Jason Cummins decided to move to the top side of the speedway and was making hay up top. Cummins moved into the top five on lap four, by lap six he had moved into the third. Foss was under Schott for the lead by this time as they battled for the lead. Schott was able to hold he off and with twelve down Foss moved up to the top side to find a new line as the flew on lap twelve. On the restart Schott led with Cummins now into the second spot and Foss in third. Over the final ten circuits Cummins hung onto Schotts rear bumper. Cummins got alongside of Schott for the lead but Schott was too strong and held his line and position to take home the top spot. Cummins came home in a close second with Foss, Brandon Davis and Angst rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Davis, Lance Hofer and Joel Alberts.

The final race of the night was the annual school bus race. With six buses on hand for the action the green flag waved over the field. Goodhue, Chatfield and Osage were three wide going into turn one as they raced through two Kingsland made a strong move from the sixth starting spot and drove under them all and into the lead. Osage held on for the second spot while Goodhue and now Blooming Prairie were side by side for third. Blooming Prairie took over the third spot while out back Grand Meadow and Chatfield were banging hard into each other. Osage closed on Kingsland and with two to go made a strong move for the lead but came up short as Kingsland held on for the popular win with the local crowd. Osage, Blooming Prairie, Goodhue, Chatfield and Grand Meadow rounded out the field.
