Barber captures first career win, feature winners take part in ALS Cold Water Challenge

Spring Valley MN - August 16, 2014:  (Photo courtesy of Gulbranson Photo)  A Perfect day for the Wagner Trucking sponsored event at the speedway. With over 100 cars in the pit area a group of people put up money on the warm August night to do the ALS ice Bucket Challenge. Money was put up and each feature winner would get money donated on behalf of their name to the ALS if they would do the ice bucket challenge. All five feature winners agreed to it along with Randy Queensland who had money put up for him to take the challenge. Over $1100 was raised for these six people to take the challenge.

The first feature event of the night saw Cole Queensland and Jacob Bleess on the front row of the Elma Performance and Fabricating USRA B-Modified feature. 1&2 in the points with the season rapidly coming to an end is what everyone wants to see. Queensland used his outside starting position to take the early lead. Bleess settled into second while Cory Crapser moved past Parker Hale for the third spot. The first caution flew on lap two with Queensland setting the pace on the restart. Crapser powered under Bleess to take over the second spot. Blake Arndt and Alex Williamson sat inside the top five. With six down the top three were nose to tail and pulling away from the field. Williamson started to pressure Arndt for the fourth spot as a caution flew on lap seven. Queensland again led on the restart with Crapser trying to pull a slide job in four. Queensland held the line and powered between Crapser and the wall to hold onto the top spot. Another caution on lap ten saw Queensland lead with Crapser and Bleess in the top three. Trevor Fecht got a good restart and worked into the fourth spot after starting twelfth. A little further back one of the faster cars Jerry Young, was working through the pack and went three wide for position and had one heck of a save as him and another car touched almost turning Young into the turn three wall. Young took over the seventh spot on lap fifteen after starting nineteenth on the field. A final caution flew setting up a green white, checker dash. Queensland held onto the top spot with Bleess dropping back after trying to move past Crapser allowing Williamson, Fecht and Arndt by as the white flew. Scott Demmer won the B-Feature while Bleess, Dustin Kruse, Fecht and Nick Wagner won the heat races.

Shaun Mann, Bernie Adams and Jason Barber raced three wide for the lead for the first two laps of the Six Two Graphics WISSOTA Street Stock feature event. Barber took control of the top spot at the completion of the second lap leaving Adams to try and defend the third spot as Bobby Kilby and Mike Blowers challenged him for the spot. Adams didn't like the pack and moved around Mann on lap four to retake second leaving Mann and Kilby racing for third. With eight down Mann was again by himself in third and on lap twelve moved into a race for second with Adams again. Mann took the spot this time as the first caution flew over the race. On the restart Barber led with heavy pressure from Mann. Adams sat in third while Nick Schwebach and Kory Adams raced for fourth. Barber held off a late race restart as he took home his first feature win at the speedway ahead of Mann, B. Adams, K. Adams and Schwebach. Heat races were won by Noah Grinstead and Barber.

Cory Crapser is all that needed to be said about the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event. Jacob Bleess worked into second as Crapser blasted off the front row into the lead. Dustin Scott quickly took over the third spot while Jesse Hernandez and Jared Boumeester raced for the fourth spot. A restart on lap two saw Scott pull a slider on Bleess for the second spot. Another caution on lap seven saw Tony Schill move inside the top five as he and Boumeester raced for the fourth and fifth spots. Schill took over the fourth spot on lap ten and started to pressure Bleess for third. At the finish it was Crapser with the win, Scott, Bleess, Schill and Boumeester rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Hernandez, Schill and Bleess.

With multiple grooves really starting to come in the Wagner Trucking WISSOTA Super Stock Feature was another good one. Gary Wiersgalla, Neil Eckhart and Kevin Hager were three wide for the early lead. Wiersgalla took control of the event after the first lap with Eckhart in second. Dave Solum and Hager battled for third. A restart with two down saw Wiersgalla leading while Schatney Sanders, Eckhart, Solum and Hager were four wide for second. Hager took over second for a lap until Solum worked into second on lap four. Another restart on lap five saw Wiersgalla leading, Solum and Eckhart battled for third behind Solum. Brauer took the spot on lap six and then on lap seven moved past Solum for second. With ten down Brauer and Wiersgalla battled for the lead. Brauer took the spot on lap twelve with Wiersgalla hanging close. A final caution flew on lap sixteen and on the restart Brauer led around the hub while Wiersgalla hung close in second running up against the wall. Ryan Siegle had early issues and restarted at the rear on lap two and as the white flew over the field Siegle moved past Solum for the third spot. At the finish it was Brauer with the win. Wiersgalla, Siegle, Solum and Brian Fetting rounding out the top five. Wiersgalla and Ed Sanders won the heat races.

You know how sometimes you sit and the races and wonder how this can get any better than what I have seen so far. Well the NAPA Auto Care USRA Modifieds pulled onto the track and showed how it gets better with three and four wide racing the norm outside the top five a person didn't know what to watch. Up front Josh Angst got the early lead with Nate Wasmund in second. Cory Mahder and Brandon Davis raced for fourth behind Damon Haslip in third. With three down Mahder moved up to race Haslip for the third spot. Mahder took the spot on lap six and quickly caught up to Wasmund and battled him for second. Mahder took second on lap nine as Angst was checking out on the field up front. Davis and Wasmund now raced for the third spot, Davis took third on lap thirteen while Angst started into lap traffic. A restart on lap fifteen saw Mahder, Angst and Davis tight up front. Another caution on lap nineteen saw Mahder with the slight edge. Davis was in third while Bob Timm bull rushed through a pack of cars to take over fifth behind Jason Cummins who moved into fourth on the restart.   Angst and Davis had a good race to the checkers side by side for the final three laps. Mahder took home the win ahead of Angst, Davis, Cummins and Timm. Heat races were won by Angst, Timm and Alan Wagner.

The racing season is rapidly winding down as next week will see the crowning of the point champions for the 2014 racing season.
