Deer Creek Speedway Set For 21st Season Opener

Spring Valley, MN - By: Todd Narveson:  Even the cold early spring weather cannot dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of area race fans and teams as they get set to embark on another exciting racing season. The Deer Creek Speedway located in Spring Valley, Minnesota will host their 21st season opener on Saturday, April 23 with five classes of cars in action.

Looking back at previous opening night heroics, the “Medford Monster Brandon Davis has made opening night his playground in recent years. Davis has won the USRA Modified lid lifter in 2015, 2014 and in 2011. Davis also owns two season opening checkered flags in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds taking wins in 2008 and 2009.

Likewise, Jeff Brauer of Eyota has been just as dominant in the WISSOTA Super Stocks to start the season. The five-time track champion took wins to start the season in 2015, 2014, 2014 and 2011. Brauer also has a opener win in the Pure Stocks back in 1996. Looking ahead to the 2016 season, both Davis and Brauer have their eyes set on the all-time feature win leader Bob Timm’s win total of 51. Brauer is currently fourth all-time with 47-wins and Davis is fifth with 46-wins.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds have been very competitive during season openers since being added to the show in 2001. In 15-years there have been 13-different winners with only Dan Wheeler and Brandon Davis winning more than once. Last year Dustin Scott of Inver Grove Heights used his first night win to propel him to his first track championship. Scott also took over the all-time Midwest Modified feature win lead with 25-wins that broke the tie between Kenny Wytaske and Brandon Davis who both had 22-wins.

The USRA B-Mod division made their debut at “The Creek in 2010. There has yet to be a repeat winner on opening night. Tyler Johnson, Brandon Hare, Scott Demmer, Troy Hovey, Cole Queensland and Kylie Kath have all posed in the Bobcat of Rochester victory lane. This division once again looks to have big car counts and great racing for the upcoming season.

If you want to talk about competitive door-to-door racing look no further than the WISSOTA Street Stocks. The class was WISSOTA sanctioned in 1998 and in 18-openers there have been 16-different winners. The last six seasons there has been a different winner with Nick Schwebach of Caledonia taking the checkered flag last year.

With Mother Nature’s approval the season will open on the 23rd. Pit gates will open at 3:00 p.m., grandstands at 4:00 p.m. and the first green flag will fly at 6:00 p.m. The Deer Creek Speedway is located just 25-minutes south of Rochester on Highway 63, just south of Racine.
