Brauer Becomes All-Time Win Leader At Deer Creek, Schott and Kruse Continue Winning Ways

Spring Valley, MN - August 13, 2016:  Another big field of 114-cars greeted race fan at Deer Creek Speedway with another action packed night of racing. This week’s show was presented by Podeins Power Equipment, Advanced Drainage Systems, Home Federal and Silver Lake Liquor.

One driver made history, two others continue their hot streaks while two other racers added to their win totals. It was also AFCO Race of Champions qualifier night for the WISSOTA classes.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the feature action with 19-cars in the field for their 18-lap run. Don Schaefer sat on the pole and rocketed to the top side of the speedway for the lead. A couple of quick cautions slowed the race early on. Schaefer continued out front wirh Garitt Wytaske and Ron Jablonske in the mix for second.

Robbie Franklin cracked the top five and then got to fourth before a lap five caution brought things to a halt. Schaefer held the lead while Franklin got Jablonske for third and then passed Wytaske for second on lap 10. Then Wytaske and Franklin made contact in turn four that brought out the caution and that sent Wytaske to the tail.

Schaefer again took off and even a caution with two laps to go did not faze him. Schaefer held on for his second win of the year with Franklin in second. Nick Koehler finished in third while Casey Trom raced from 11th to fourth and Billy Steinberg charged from 19th to fifth at the checkered flag.

Travis Krasue led Ryan Jacobsen at the start of the KIK Graphics & Printing WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Mike Blowers bolted to second on lap two and then stormed past Krause for the lead on lap three. There were several yellow flags during the event which kept the pack tight. Blowers was in command for the entire 18-lap race.

Blowers took the win for his third straight win, sixth of the season and 14th of the season overall. The race for second was good the entire race. Danny Hanson snuck past Blake Adams to finish in the runner up spot. Danny Richards put on a show after going to the tail on lap three. Richards drove all the way back up to fourth at the finish and Kory Adams was fifth.

Outside pole sitter Cole Denner led the Dirt Doctor Trucking USRA B-Mods and checked out early on. Dustin Kruse and AJ Johnston battled for second as Jim Chisholm cracked the top five. Two yellows shook things up on the restart as Kruse got shuffled back by Johnston and Kadden Kath. Kruse got going and reclaimed second on lap 10.

Johnston lost a couple of spots and then was involved in a crash with Kaleb Leinhard on lap 12. Shaun Olson piled into the duo tail end first and made heavy contact. Fire erupted in Olson’s car but it was quickly extinguished and all drivers were uninjured. A red flag period ensued while the crash was cleaned up.

On the restart, Denner got sucked up by Kruse and Chisholm as the went to first and second. Chisholm challenged Kruse with a couple to go and they made contact under the flagstand. It looked like a big wreck would ensue and the yellow came out, but everyone kept going and got their spots back on the start. Kruse would hang on for his second win in a row and third of the week, Cole Queensland started 19th and got by Chisholm for second. Chisholm was third with 14th starter Kylie Kath fourth and Alex Williamson raced from 22nd to fifth.

The Olympic Fire Protection WISSOTA Super Stock feature hd another framatic finish for the second week in a row. AJ Hoff took the lead on the green, but Jeff Brauer zoomed to the top spot as lap one completed. Brauer would pull away from the pack until Neil Eckhart got to second on lap two.

Brauer held a pretty good lead but Eckhart chipped away at it and behinf them Tommy Richards got to third on lap seven. Eckhart caught Brauer on lap 10 and the race was on, Eckhart ran the low line and Brauer was up top. Eckhart took the lead on lap 13 and held it until lap 17 when Brauer edged back out front.

Eckhart took the lead again but Brauer gave it one last ditch run on the final lap. Brauer came down a groove and was right next to Eckhart in turn three. It was a drag race to the checkered flag and Brauer got there first by .015 at the line. This was Brauer’s fifth win of the season and 52nd win at the speedway which makes him the all-time feature win leader at Deer Creek. Tommy Richards was third with Danny Richards fourth and Dave Solum fifth.

Levi Nielsen beat pole sitter Dwaine Hanson in turn one to lead the NAPA Autp Care Centers USRA Modified feature. Nielsen was cranked up on the top side and left Jason Cummins and Josh Angst to duke it out for second. Lucas Schott would join that party and make it a three car battle on lap six.
Brandon Davis started 24th and had the fans eyes on him now in the top ten.

Nielsen flew on the top but the leaders entered lapped traffic and all was good for a while. However, Schott moved to second with Cummins and Angst along for the ride as they closed the gap on Nielsen. Schott made the pass for the lead in lapped traffic on lap 22 while Cummins hit the turn one wall to bring out the caution.

Schott checked out for his third win of the season with Angst finishing second. Nielsen’s best Deer Crek run ended up in third at the finish. Davis’ superb charge from row 12 ended in fourth and Nare Wasmund rounded out the top five.
