Sanders Holds Off Duellman To Deny Huge Bonus

Spring Valley, MN (July 27) - By: Todd Narveson

After a week off due to rain, a perfect night for racing graced race fand and competitors this week at Deer Creek Speedway. A field of 103-race cars signed in and they put on a pretty good show for the crowd.

This week’s program was presented by Wagner Trucking, Randy & Sandy Norby, Exhaust Pros of Northfield and the Scott Brown family. The Norby’s added an extra $200 for the B-Mod feature winner along with and extra $100 for second and third and a $100 hard charger. Exhaust Pros threw in a $100 bonus for each feature winner.

The National Fleet Graphics USRA B-Mods had 34-entries that took four heats and two b-mains to make up their 24-car feature field. The question was could anyone keep Jim Chisholm out of victory lane? Chisholm rode a three race win streak and had won six of the eight shows in 2019.

Trevor Fecht led from the get-go with Hunter Kennedy, Shaun walski and Eric Thill in tow. Walski charged to second, but it was Chisholm on the fly. Chisholm entered the top five and then worked to third before the yellow came out on lap five for a five car tangle.

The leaders all bunched up on the start and Walski was the odd-man out with a flat tire and the yellow came out for his slowing car. On the restart, Chisholm stormed to the lead and pulled away. Several drivers sliced their way through traffic in impressive form.

Chisholm would not be challenged to win his fourth in a row. Kadden Kath came from 10th to second, Nick Wagner bolted from 13th to third, Fecht ended up fourth while Ryan Maitland took the hard-charger bonus when he stormed from 22nd to fifth.

Ryan Jacobsen led lap one of the Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stock feature and was chased by Braden Brauer and Fred Prudoehl. Calvin Iverson moved up to take third from Prudoehl while Brauer snagged the lead from Jacobsen.

Iverson moved to second on lap five and then set after Brauer. Iverson battled Brauer for a couple of laps and took the lead for good on lap 10. Iverson went on for the win with Brauer second. Parker Anderson finished in third with Dustin Doughty fourth and Kory Adams in fifth.

Casey Jane Trom and Don Schaefer had a good early race for the lead in the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified main. Schaefer took the lead and then was challenged by Dylan Goettl.

They had a dandy race going until Goettl stole the lead on lap five. Schaefer threw a wicked slider to retake the lead, but Goettl crossed over and took the lead back. Meanwhile Nick Koehler and Mitch Weiss had their own race going for third.

Goettl opened up a little lead, but Weiss took over second with Koehler now third. A yellow on lap nine would drastically change the course of the race. Koehler jumped to the high side and took the lead away from Goettl on lap 11.

Koehler led the final seven laps for his second win of the season. Goettl would finish in second with Weiss third. Calvin Iverson came home in fourth and Jason Haugerud would round out the top five.

The Crenlo Super Stocks put on a whale of a show with only 10-cars this week. Brandon Duellman came within a whisker of a $600 bonus for the Brauer Super Stock Challenge.

Schatney Sanders led from the start and Duellman quickly moved to second. Sanders had opened up a big lead but Duellman cut the gap rather fast. Then it was a dynamite race when Duellman continuously tried to get inside Sanders.

On lap 10 Duellman pulled alongside and the race was on. They went door-to-door for several laps. Duellman led lap 17, but Sanders regained the point on lap 18. Duellman closed back in for one last lap charge to try and steal the win and reap the $600 bonus,

Sanders edged Duellman by .15 at the line to get his second win and deny the big payday for Duellman. Jeff Brauer finished in third, Ryan Wiome was fourth and Neil Eckhart was fifth. Next week the Brauer Roofing Super Stock Bonus goes to $750.

The NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds did not disappoint with their feature. Jason Cummins led from row one with Chet Atkinson second. Dustin Sorensen whisked from sixth to second with a bold move on lap two. J.T. Wasmund then snuck past Atkinson for third on lap four.

Sorensen reeled in Cummins and caught him on lap six. Brandon Davis used the low groove to work from 11th to fourth. Davis then slipped past Wasmund for third while Sorensen and Cummins diced for the lead. Two cautions slowed the race on lap seven.

The green came out and Davis stormed to lead lap eight. Sorensen went to the mid-groove and Cummins was on the top and it was three wide up front. Cummins led lap nine and then the yellow returned. The race heated up again when Davis got back after Cummins. They were in a great battle when the yellow came out on lap 16.

Davis reclaimed the lead on lap 18 and took off. Davis glided to his third win of the season and 54th at Deer Creek. Cummins finished in second with Sorensen third. Josh Angst raced from ninth to fourth and Wasmund was fifth.
