Several Drivers Stay Hot At Deer Creek

It was a hot and sultry evening for racing this week at Deer Creek Speedway. The program was dedicated to long-time Deer Creek grader operator Joe Fitzpatrick who passed away on July 19 at the age of 82. Fitzpatrick had worked at the speedway for 18-seasons.

The American flag was flown at half-staff and a moment of silence was observed before the start of the program in his honor. Also, the grader he operated was parked in victory lane to honor him.

This week’s action was presented by Young Truck Lines of Lyle along with Randy & Sandy Norby along with the Sexton family. Along with the normal five division program, the USRA Late Models joined the show.

The USRA B-Mods rolled out first for their 18-lap feature race. Ben Moudry jumped off row one to lead early on. Dustin Kruse and Brandon Hare stayed with Moudry while Jim Chisholm got to fourth.

Hare moved up to challenge Moudry for the lead. Hare challenged Moudry, but they ran out of room in turn two and made contact. Hare broke and came to rest on the track to bring out a yellow. On the start Chisholm moved by Moudry to the lead on lap seven.  Another caution came out before the lap was scored complete and Moudry was restored up front.

Chisholm took the lead on the start, but the car on the move was Alex Schubbe. Schubee used the top groove and charged from 16th to second. Two more yellows came out on lap 12 and 13 to reach the five yellow flag mark.

That cut five laps off the race for a green, white, checkered finish. Chisholm drove on to his eighth win of the season. Schubbe had his best run in second with Noah Grinstead third. Moudry would come home in fourth and Joe Chisholm was fifth.

The Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stock division has pretty much been owned by Dustin Doughty and Braden Brauer in 2021. It was no different on this night when the 18-lap race came down to those two.

Bernie Adams held the early lead and was chased by Nick Schwebach and Braden Brauer. Schwebach took the lead on lap three as the top seven were in a very tight pack for the first portion of the race.

Adams rallied back past Schwebach while Brauer took second. Brauer took the lead and stretched his advantage over the pack. Doughty meanwhile moved from eighth and eventually got to second. Brauer was gone at that point, but a caution with two laps to go wiped out his big advantage.

Doughty tried to pass Brauer but came up short. Brauer racked up his sixth win of the year with Doughty a close second. Schwebach finished in third with Adams and Kolton Brauer in the top five.

Billy Steinberg jumped off of row one to the lead in the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. He was pursued by Don Schaefer and Ryan Goergen until Schaefer drove to the point on lap three.

Adam Martinson worked his way to second while Mitch Weiss moved from eighth to third. Kadden Kath was the car to watch when he came from 16th and into the top five. Weiss got to second and then took the lead on lap 16.

Weiss led the rest of the way for his third win of the season. Kath’s charge ended in second place with Martinson in third. Schaefer would finish in fourth and Goergen was fifth.

Spencer Stock led the early laps of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Dennis Dunbar hung with Stock while Ryan Wiome entered the picture in third.

Wiome darted past both Dunbar and then got by Stock on lap seven for the lead. Wiome led the last 13-laps for his sixth win of the year and third in a row. Dylan Kromschroeder made some moves late in the race to finish second. Dunbar placed third with Stock and Bradern Brauer in the top five.

The Eagles Club of Rochester USRA Late Models made their third appearance of the season with 12-cars making the start for their feature run.

Lance Hofer started on the pole and took the lead. Hofer got loose in turn four and almost spun his car. Somehow he saved it, but the result was spun cars in his wake and Hofer was sent to the tail.

The race was really good up front when Triton Krause and Steven O’Brien Jr. went side-by-side for several laps. Krause led, but O’Brien was scored the leader on lap 11. Dylan Kromschroeder zoomed to third and set after the lead duo.

O’Brien regained the lead, but Kromschroeder mounted a serious challenge. Hofer had raced his way from the tail to third while the leaders raced hard up front.

Kromschroeder took the lead with three laps to go and picked up the win.  O’Brien’s great drive ended in second with Hofer third. Justin Sass finished in fourth and Max Nelson was fifth.

Joe Ludemann and Ryan Wetzstein led the 21-car field to the green flag for the NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modified feature. Ludemann took the lead while Cory Crapser came from row two to second.

Lidemann opened up the lead while Crapser battled Wetzstein for second. Once Crapser cleared Wetzstein he was able to cut into Ludemann’s lead. Dustin Sorensen worked his way to fourth and he slowly reeled in the top three.

On lap 12, Crapser caught Ludemann and took the lead. Then Sorensen challenged Ludemann for second and wrestled that position away on lap 22. Brandon Davis had the fastest car on the track at this point and was now fourth after starting in row six.

On the final lap, Crapser ran the high line out of turn two and Sorensen cut to the low side in turn three. Sorensen stole the lead and crossed the line first for his fourth win of the year. Crapser was second with Ludemann, Davis and Wetzstein in the top five.
