Chisholm Brothers Double Up Again At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN (August 20)

By: Todd Narveson

Deer Creek Speedway held their second to last track point night this week. After two days of rain, skies cleared and racing was able to take place.

This week’s program was presented by Action Engineering, Schott Distributing, Ruehlow Farms and the St. Ansgar American Legion Post 358. Another good field of 105-cars signed in for the five-division show.

For the second time this season Jim and Joe Chisholm both won their respective feature races. Kolton Brauer continued the Brauer family domination in the Street Stocks. Nick Koehler continues to run well in the Midwest Modifeds and Josh Zieman got his first Stock Car win this year.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were up first for their 18-lap feature. Adam Martinson, Christopher Deno and Dan Wheeler battled for the lead early on.

Nick Koehler moved up from fifth and quickly took third. Koehler then zipped past Deno for second on lap five. Koehler passed Martinson for the lead one lap later. Martinson spun to bring out the yellow.

A few more caution flags would slow the pace, but Koehler would hold off a late challenge from Kadden Kath for his fourth win of the year. Mitch Weiss finished third with Trevis Underdahl fourth. Kylie Kath had the drive of the night when he started 24th and flew all the way up to fifth.

The story in the Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks for 2022 has been Braden and Kolton Brauer. Going into this week they had won every feature event this season.

That storyline continued when Kolton Brauer passed Zach Elward on lap two and glided to his third win of the season The race for second was good with Elward, Kyle King, Kory Adams and Braden Brauer.

Braden Brauer would eventually get to second, but his younger brother Kolton was long gone. Elward finished in third with King and Adams in the top five.

Zach Brom and Noah Grinstead had a great battle for the lead in the early stages of the Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mod feature. Brom would take the lead, but Grisntead was right there.

Joe Chisholm worked his way from seventh to third and then passed Grinstead for second on lap nine. Chisholm then set after Brom and took the lead away on lap 10. A caution would fly on lap 14 and again on lap 17 to set up a tw-lap dash to the finish.

Chisholm went unchallenged to the checkered flag for his fourth win and three in a row. Spencer Stock had a great run late in the race to finish second after he started ninth. Brandon Hare finished third, with Brom fourth and Garitt Wytaske was fifth.

Josh Zieman started on the pole for the Medieval Chassis USRA Stock Car feature. Zieman would lead every lap to dominate the race for his second career win at Deer Creek.

The race for second was a dandy with Kyle Falck, Brayden Gjere, Blake Adams and Jim Chisholm. Chisholm took the runner up spot late in the race while Falck took over the point lead with a third-place finish. Gjere was fourth and Adams finished fifth.

Jeremy Nelson and Jacob Bleess led the 19-car NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds to the green flag for their 25-lap main event. Nelson broke on lap one to bring out the yellow.

Bleess took the lead while Keith Foss moved to second. Jim Chisholm moved to third and then passed Foss for second on lap four. A caution would come out on lap four to set up a crucial restart.

Chisholm zoomed past Bleess for the lead when the race resumed and then checked out. Another yellow slowed the race on lap nine and then on lap 11, Foss’ night ended when he glided to the infield.

Chisholm was in control the rest of the way to take his second win of the season. Brandon Davis passed Bleess for second on lap 16 while Dustin Sorensen and Joel Alberts would round out the top five.
