Timm & Jackson Take Thunder Summer Series Titles

Spring Valley, MN (July 1)

By: Todd Narveson

It was Fireworks Night at Deer Creek Speedway this week. Along with that was the finale of the RacinDirt.com Thunder Summer Series presented by Whitewater Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

The event was sponsored by Medieval Chassis, Medieval Metal Werx along with Randy & Sandy Norby, Bill & Brenda Weber, Dohlman Lawn Care and Waste Management.

A huge field of 168-cars checked in for the show and a large crowd gathered to watch the show.

Chris Hovden has been the driver to beat in the Meadow Greens Golf Course USRA Hobby Stocks. Hovden redrew the pole for the 18-lap feature. Hovden would take his third win of the season and 13th overall, but it was not easy.

Hovden was challenged by Steve Dwyer early in the race. Luke Schluetter also rose up to race the lead duo and then would pressure Hovden for the lead.

Several yellow flags would slow the race and break up the great race up front. Eventually on lap 12 the fifth caution came out and five laps were cut to make it a green, white, checkered finish,

Hovden scooted to the win, Dwyer ended up second with Schluetter third. Nick Schwebach came from 12th to finish fourth and Carter Jonsgaard was fifth.

An incredible field of 50-Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods went through five heat races and two B-mains to get down to their 26-car field. This was the final race for the Summer Thunder Series and Kris Jackson was going for a sweep of the series.

Trevor Fecht took the lead from row one and led but a caution on lap four slowed the race. Jackson started 13th and when the race resumed, bolted to third. Just as Jackson made a bid for the lead a massive 10-car collision in turn one stopped the race.

Jackson took the lead on lap 11 and drove away for his 27th win of the year. Jackson swept the series and took home the $1000 point fund.

Joe Chisholm was a distant second with Hunter Kennedy in third. Dylan Goettl came from 12th to fourth and Brian Shaw was fifth.

Don Schaefer held the lead for the first six laps of the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Adam Martinson would apply pressure on the leader. Bill Steinberg was in the mix as well.

Martinson would take the lead on lap seven and never looked back for his first win of the season. The race behind him was good with Schaefer, Steinberg and Kobie Kath.

Behind Martinson, Schaefer finished second with Kath in third. Steinberg ended up in fourth while Tommy Myer rounded out the top five.

Twenty-four Rochester Chevrolet USRA Stock Cars took the green flag for their 20-lap feature. Shawn Peter jumped from row one to the lead. Travis Shipman quickly took the lead on lap three.

Brayden Gjere got to third on lap eight and then drove to the lead on lap 10. Andrew Bleess got to second before a yellow slowed the race on lap 13.

Kory Adams got into Shipman and sent him into a spin. Several cars were involved and Shipman’s night was done. Adams went to the tail when the race resumed.

Tom Schmitt then raced Gjere for the lead and stole it away on lap 15. Gjere would remain close, but it was Schmitt who took his sixth career win at Deer Creek.

Gjere was second with Bleess in third. Levi Vander Weide would finish in fourth and Josh Zieman charged from 13th to fifth.

Jake Timm started on the pole for the 30-lap, $2000 to win NAPA Auto care Centers USRA Modified feature. It was over at the drop of the green flag.

Timm took off on a tear and was into lapped traffic on lap seven. Timm sliced through the lapped cars with ease until a caution came out on lap 16. It did not change the complexion of the race.

Timm drove away for the win and also the $2000 point fund check for winning the Thunder Summer Series title. Jim Chisholm came from 10th to second, Alex Williamson was third with Dan Ebert fourth and Josh Angst was fifth.
