ROBERT DUTTON ENDS TWO YEAR DROUGHT IN DELAWARE BIG BLOCKS

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/30/11) – Robert Dutton ended a two year drought in the NAPA Big Block Modifieds as he captured the Pepsi sponsored 25-lap feature Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway.

It was a matter of positioning himself at the right place at the right time in the main. Defending champion Kenny Brightbill led the first three laps before H.J. Bunting moved on top. Bunting quickly opened an advantage over Brightbill as Dutton moved in to challenge in third.

On lap ten Dutton pulled into the second spot and set his sites on Bunting who was starting to work lapped traffic. With eight laps to go, Bunting made contact in traffic and cut down a right front tire. Bunting headed in for a change under the yellow and returned at the rear of the field.

Dutton was the new leader with Brightbill clinging to his back bumper. All eyes turned to Brad Trice who was marching into the top five taking third from Eric Kormann with five to go. Trice’s run ended in a shower of sparks as he slowed and headed to the pits.

The final five laps were all green with Dutton making no mistakes to drive to the win. “Brightbill is always tough, said Dutton. “My last win was in 2009. I want to dedicate this win to my wife. I’m also thankful that my kids were here to see me win tonight.

Brightbill finished in second with Dale Hawkins posting a season’s best in third. Fourth went to Michael White and Kormann rounded out the top five. Jamie Mills returned to action for the first time this season starting deep in the field and finishing sixth. Heats were won by George Richardson and White.
