You Guessed It! Delaware International Rained Out AGAIN!

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/28/12) – With over 130 cars in the pits and a great crowd in the stands inclement weather hit once again midway through qualifying Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. An alert call by promoter Charlie Cathell brought a quick end to qualifying, allowing the teams to load up their cars and for fans to get to their cars before high winds, lightning and torrential rain hit around 8:30 p.m. ending the Pepsi sponsored program that also was to include the Tony Steele Memorial for Vintage Stock Cars.

Nineteen NAPA Big Block Modifieds took part in the two qualifying heats. Finishing in the top five in the first heat were Jamie Mills, Howard O’Neal, Matt Jester, Scott Van Gorder and Dale Hawkins. The top five in the second heat were Brad Trice who took the win over H.J. Bunting on the final turn followed by Beau Wilkins, Robert Dutton and Kyle Fuller.

Sixteen Super Late Models took part in qualifying. The top five in the first heat were Donald Lingo, Jr., Ricky Elliott, Kerry King, Jr., David Pettyjohn and Kerry King. The top five in the second heat were Mark Byram, Lou Johnson, Staci Warrington, Dale Lingo and Bob Geiger.

Mod Lite qualifying also got in before the storm with Jimmy Wills setting fast time over Brandon Dennis. Ray Gulliver was third quick followed by Landis Musser and Mike Stratton in the top five. Sixth through tenth were Jason Musser, Zac Weller, Curt Miles, Jr., Brandon Strugis and Josh Clark.

This Saturday night will be Sysco Eastern Maryland Night and will feature “Twin 20’s� for the Super Late Models plus the NAPA Big Block Modifieds, Crate Models, AC Delco PSC Modifieds, Mod Lites, and Little Lincolns. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m.
