JAMIE MILLS TAKES 6TH WIN AND POINT LEAD IN DELAWARE BIG BLOCK MODIFIEDS

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (8/18/12) – It has been a season long battle between Milford, Del. drivers, Jamie Mills and H.J. Bunting in the Big Block Modified division at the Delaware International Speedway. Saturday night Mills posted his third straight win a due to Bunting’s misfortune was able to move into the point lead.

 

Mills and Bunting captured the heat races and with the four car inversion draw started in fourth and third behind Matt Jester and pole sitter, Beau Wilkins. Wilkins was fast at the drop of the green and quickly pulled away from the pack while Bunting got by Jester for second. Mills and Jester put on a good battle for the third spot until Mills gained the position on lap three.

 

While Wilkins continued to show the way Bunting and Mills locked into another classic battle for second. Mills dropped Bunting to third on lap ten and two laps later, Brad Trice got around to bring out the caution.

 

Wilkins got a good restart but Mills started to attempt to slide in front of him in the turns. On lap 17, Wilkins got out of shape in the second turn and Mills was able to move on top with Bunting following into second. Disaster would strike for Bunting with four laps to go when his engine let go going into the first turn bringing him to a stop and bringing out the yellow.

 

Jester had gotten by Wilkins for third and was now in second for the restart. Mills took off at the drop of the green and Jester was unable to match his speed as Mills blasted to his sixth win of the season. Jester had his best finish of the year in second with Wilkins taking a hard earned third. Fourth went to Howard O’Neal and Scott Van Gorder rounded out the top five. 

 

“I tell you what, these guys bring me a good car each week,� said Mills. “It just keeps getting better and better. Will (Brown) told me this week he’s got a new motor that he is going to put in. He said that it is better but I don’t think you can get any better than this.�
