$60,000 DELAWARE STATE DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP OCT. 17 & 18
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – For the fifth consecutive year, the Delaware State Dirt Track Championships at the Delaware International Speedway will be held under the lights on Friday night, October 17th and Saturday night October 18th.  The evening format may give the Saturday night regulars at the track the“home court� advantage against an always talented group of invaders.
 More than $60,000 will be on the line in the two night event. The Big Block Modified 50 lap championship will pay $5000 to win which jumps to $6000 with a $50 gambler’s fee and $7000 with a $100 gambler’s fee plus lap leader money. Similarly in the Super Late Model 50 lapper it will be $5000 to win, $6000 with a $50 gambler’s fee and $7000 with a $100 gamblers fee plus lap leader money. The Small Block Modifieds will make their only appearance of the season with $3000 to win the 50 lap main plus an additional $1000 with a $50 gambler’s fee and a total of $5000 with a $100 gambler’s fee plus lap money.The support divisions will also have their chance at big paydays. In both the AC Delco TSS Modifieds and the Crate Models the 25 lap winner will receive $1250 to win plus lap money. A $50 gambler’s fee will increase the winner’s share to $1750. The Mod Lite 20 lap main will pay $750 to win plus lap money and $1250 to win with the $50 gambler’s fee. There will also be championship events for the Little Lincoln Cars, Vintage Stock Cars, Delmarva Chargers, Super Trucks and the Slide for 5.
Fourteen year cancer survivor, Carolyn “Blondie� Parsons is once again contributing to the purse. October is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month� and at the two day Delaware on State Dirt Track Championships she will be offering bonus money to racers in all divisions.
“I will pay an extra $25.00 to the person crossing the finish line first, win or lose, if they have a Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon displayed on their race car. The ribbon must be large enough for the score keepers to see to qualify�, said Parsons. Parsons also recommends that the Slide for 5 cars put the ribbon on the roof of their cars. It must be the pink cancer awareness ribbon and pink numbers will not qualify for the bonus.
Last year’s winners included: Billy Pauch in both the Big Block and Small Block Modifieds; Ricky Elliott in the Super Late Models; Mike Wharton in the Crate Models; Jordan Watson in the AC Delco PSC Modifieds; Mike Stratton in the Mod Lites; Jamie Wagner in the Little Lincolns; Kyle Tubbs in the Delmarva Chargers; Dwayne Heck in the Vintage Stock Cars; Matt Long in the Super Trucks and Robert Reed in the Slide for 5.
Gates open Friday Oct. 17th at 3 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. Qualifying heats (in order of qualifying) will be held for the AC Delco Modifieds, Crate Models, Small Blocks, Mod Lites, Big Block Modifieds, and Super Late Models. Feature events for the evening will include the 12-lap Little Lincoln championship, 12 lap Delmarva Chargers, 12 lap Super Truck championship, and the 50 lap Small Block Modified championship.
On Saturday Oct. 18th gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps for non-qualified cars beginning at 5:30 p.m. Feature events for the evening in order will be the 25 Lap AC Delco Modified, 50 Lap Big Block Modified, 50 Lap Super Late Model, 25 Lap Crate Model, 20 Lap Mod Lite, 12 lap Vintage Cars and ending with the Slide for 5. Two day general admission is just $40 and $60 pits. One day admission each night is $25 general admission $35 pits and as always, children 13 and under are free on the spectator side when accompanied by a parent.
