BUNTING WEEDS HIS WAY TO THE FRONT FOR ANOTHER VICTORY

By Chad Cathell - The NAPA Big Block Modifieds were on the schedule for the third feature event on the Pepsi Bottling Ventures night, and what a show it would be. In preparation for Tuesday Nights return of the Diamond State 50, out of town racers Eric Kormann and Jimmy Reppert made their first starts of the year at Delaware International. Matt Hawkins would start on the pole in the main event, and would set the tone right out of the gate.

Hawkins and Shawn Ward would battle for the first few laps, but it was Hawkins that would eventually power away from Ward. Hawkins would run a smooth race and lead up until lap 20. After the caution flew with Bryan Brasure stopped atop turn two at lap 16, HJ Bunting had worked his way up to third and had his eyes set on Hawkins. With five to go Hawkins finally relinquished the lead to Bunting, but not without fighting with all he had going wheel-to-wheel and door-to-door for multiple laps. Once out front Bunting would start stretching his legs, and would space his lead over Hawkins out to a comfortable margin on his way to picking up the win. Heats were won by Hawkins and Brad Trice.
