ELLIOTT BREAKS ON FINAL TURN - LINGO, JR. DRIVES BY FOR LATE MODEL WIN

There was plenty of action in the S.R. Pete and Sons Late Model 20-lap feature. On the first turn pole sitter, Kellie Lewis got crossed up and shot up the track across the nose of Joe Warren’s car sending her flipping and landing upside down on the back straight wall. Lewis was shaken but climbed for the car uninjured. On the restart, Herb Tunis and Warren got together with Warren coming to a stop with a broken front suspension. On the third attempt Tunis and Ricky Elliott made contact with Elliott bringing out the yellow.

The fourth time was the charm as Brandon Dennis, who was returning after a long absence, jumped out front with Tunis and Amanda Whaley giving chase. Elliott followed Donald Lingo, Jr. through the field and into the top five behind the trio. By lap five Elliott had gotten by Lingo and two laps later got by Whaley for third.

The caution was out for a final time when Reese Masiello, who was making his first start in the division got around in the second turn. Elliott climbed to second on the restart and with five to go pulled by Dennis for the lead with Lingo following into second. Elliott quickly opened a comfortable lead.

Going down the back straight for the final time, Elliott’s car let out a puff of smoke and by the time he reached the third turn it was obvious that it was not under power. All eyes turned to Lingo who was closing quickly. As Elliott coasted off the fourth turn, Lingo shot by and went on to his fourth win, extending his point lead in the division. Both Tunis and Nick Davis were able to get by Elliott before the finish for second and third. Elliott coasted across in fourth and Whaley rounded out the top five. Heats were won by Whaley and Lingo.

“I feel bad, said Lingo. “I was driving like an old lady trying to protect my point lead. We’ve had things like this go against us so I feel good because it seems like our luck has turned around.
