WHALEY SLIDES HER WAY TO VICTORY, STILLWAGON BACK ON TOP IN URC SPRINTS

WHALEY MASTERS SLIDE JOB FOR S.R. PETE & SONS SUPER LATE MODEL VICTORY

Delmar, DE- Amanda Whaley continued her breakout season, putting the classic “slide job on Mark Pettyjohn to win the 20-lap S.R. Pete & Son Super Late Model feature event. Whaley was looking for redemption when last week’s win got away, as she was the obvious fastest car on the track when a right rear tire let go while running second.

All eyes were on Mark Pettyjohn in the famed No. 8Ball as he was the first car to go to the top of the racetrack and furiously passed the top contenders for the lead by lap three. Amanda Whaley would keep Pettyjohn in sight, patiently navigating the bottom of the racetrack.

By halfway, Whaley was able to get underneath Pettyjohn, sliding in front of his nose in turns three and four. Pettyjohn would not give up easily, returning the “slideâ€? in turns one and two, with a drag race down the backstretch.

A slowing Nick Davis would cause the caution to wave, granting the lead to Whaley from the previous lap.

On the next restart, Pettyjohn would have a poor start, with last week’s winner Donald Lingo, Jr., taking advantage and advancing to the second position.

Whaley continued to extend her lead to nearly two seconds when a lap 17 caution set up for a three-lap dash. On the restart, a surprising spin by Lingo collected Kevin Scott, Jr., Dylan Evans, and Herb Tunis.

Amanda Whaley would hold off the last lap charge of Mark Pettyjohn, with a rebounding Lingo finishing third. Ricky Elliott who struggled with mechanical issues for the duration of the event and short pitted multiple times, salvaged a fourth-place finish, with Bob Geiger rounding out the top five.

Robbie Stillwagon held off the challenges of J.J. Grasso on two restarts to capture the Capitol Renegade URC Sprint feature event on R.C. Holloway night. Stillwagon would capitalize on his front row starting position to jump out to an early lead with Grasso hot on his coat tails.

A lap five caution would regroup the field, with Grasso attempting to challenge Stillwagon in turns one and two. Grasso would bobble coming off turn two, allowing Stillwagon to maintain the top position.

A mirror of a restart would happen again on lap nine, with Curt Michael taking advantage of Grasso’s weakness and taking over the second position.

Michael would try to track down Stillwagon through heavy lapped traffic but could not come within striking distance. Stillwagon, Michael, Grasso, Josh Weller, and Eddie Strada would round out the top five in the fast-paced 25-lap event.

Joey Warren, who would admit he has had a stale 2018 campaign with a variety of misfortunes was able to overtake race leader, Matt Hill, to win the RUSH Late Model 15-lap feature event. Warren would get underneath Hill in turns one and two on lap 11 and slide his bumper in front of Hill’s nose to complete the pass for the lead. Warren would go unchallenged with Hill, super-late model moonlighter, Austin Hubbard, Sparky White, and Billy Thompson rounding out the top five.
