Watt and Watson Electrify The Night In Classic Big Block Battle

Delmar, DE….. Another race, another week of rainouts across the northeast, but that did not stop Ryan Watt and team from swapping cars, loading up, and head south as Delaware International Speedway tried their best to pull one over on Mother Nature on Saturday night. With the threat of thunderstorms approaching the track showed real determination to get the show in, and Lady Luck was on their side as DIS pulled it off just in time before the storms invaded.

Ryan Watt made it worth his time by coming down to Delmar on Saturday night and picked up the win in the Hurlock Auto & Speed Big Block Modified 25 lap feature event. Matt Hawkins started on the pole and looked strong, putting on a battle between himself and Carson Wright until on lap 11 when Hawkins’ transmission went south causing him to roll to a stop just before turn three.  Watt, Scott VanGorder and Kevin Sockriter all vied for the fourth position on the restart, but Watt would work his way past the locals for the position. Jordan Watson had worked his way to third after starting fifth, and would use the caution of HJ Bunting and Sockriter to his advantage just past halfway point of the race. On the restart at halfway Watt was able to take the lead with Robert Dutton and Watson in tow. Once Watt and Jordan settled into the top two positions the show began with non stop side by side, wheel to wheel racing, with the drivers swamping positions until the end of the race where Watt would claim the victory. The show wasn’t only for the win as fans saw action throughout the top five with Dutton, Bunting and Wright all battling for third until the final lap.

The heats were won by Jordn Justice and Matt Hawkins.

In a post race interview Watt stated “With all the rainouts and Camp Barnes race coming up, as soon as Bridgeport canceled we swapped cars out and decided to head on down. It was great coming down and seeing all our fans, and getting to race with all the Delaware boys. We miss the Full Throttle races and try to get down and race when we can. The track was great with multiple grooves and it was fun battling with Jordan for the win.

Amanda Whaley Runs Flawless To Pick Up S. R. Pete & Sons Super Late Model Win

Roy Deese, Jr. was in Delaware once again on Saturday night, and looked to be a top contender in the small but competitive field of cars that took to the track on Saturday night. Deese started on the pole at the drop of the green with Austin Hubbard, Amanda Whaley, Mark Pettyjohn and Donald Lingo, Jr rounding out the top five. When the green dropped it was Whaley and Hubbard playing chase to Deese Jr as the pair would run wheel to wheel for second. Hubbard used the high groove on lap two to take second, and began to pull even with Deese on backstretch until the yellow waved for Donald Lingo Jr who had gotten around in turn four. On the restart “The Wild Child� used every cubic inch under the hood to grab the lead, and didn’t look back. Hubbard would continue to battle for second with Deese putting up a strong fight until Hubbard slipped by on lap six with Kevin Kevin Scott, Jr. following for third. Whaley was able to keep a clean nose and would lead the remainder of the race that ran caution free until final lap.

The heats were won by Roy Deese Jr and Amanda Whaley.

“Old Faithful� Pilots Greg Humlhanz to Victory in AC Delco Modifieds

Scott Hitchens and James Hill switched the lead back and forth until two laps to go in the 15 lap feature. On lap 13 it was Tom Moore getting around after stopping in turn two bringing out the yellow. On the restart Hitchens leads Hill down to turns 1 & 2 when the two make contact and become attached to bring the yellow back out. It was the right place at the right time for Greg Humlhanz as he had been running a solid third throughout the entire feature and would inherit the lead and hold on to go to victory lane.

Matt Hill Claims Third Win At Delmar In The Rush Late Model Feature

Matt Hill drew the pole position for the 15 lap feature and never looked back to claim his third win at Delmar and fourth overall this season. At the half way point Hill leads, with Derek Magee, Sparky White, Joe Warren and Trevor Collins rounding out the top five. On Lap 13, Geoff Carey brought out the yellow in turn four with a broken transmission. With the field tightened back up a battle ensued with Warren and White on restart for third, but after some with contact Warren suffered damage on the front end of his machine and ended his night. After the races Warren stated he got a little hot in the turn and hit the brakes to avoid hitting White and it got him turned around. Hill would continue to lead on the following restart, and never look back to claim the win.

Ray Gulliver Picks Up Another Win In The Modified Lites

 

Ray Gulliver showed to be a dominant force again in the Modified Lites on Saturday night at Delaware International.  At the half way sign Gulliver leads with Tim White, Ryan Charland, Jason Musser and Curt Miles, Jr rounding out the top five. Gulliver would go without challenge for the remainder of the event to win the race.
