Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (April 8, 2019) – Blaine Baxter overcame a number of restarts to earn his first top-10 finish of the young season Saturday night at Delta Speedway.

Despite losing positions on several of the restarts, the 11-year-old charged back each time and eventually finished ninth after lining up 12th in the 21-car field.

“There were quite a few restarts and Blaine lost positions on most of them when he spun his tires,” said his father, Dustin Baxter. “But he was able to get those spots back each time and move forward.

“I was really happy with his driving. He had a lot of side-by-side racing with a couple of drivers for a number of laps that was really clean racing, which is kind of unusual for that class. The cars in the restricted class are so equal that there’s usually a lot of carnage.”

Blaine Baxter preceded the feature with his first heat race win of the year.

“I started on the pole and was able to pull away at the start,” he said. “I hit my marks on the bottom and was able to win by about a straightaway.”

Qualifying presented a bit of a challenge to Baxter as he timed in 12th quickest, which gave him that position on the starting grid for the feature.

“I was pretty good in turns three and four in qualifying,” he said. “But it was really slick in turns one and two and I missed the bottom on both laps.”

His night went much better than his first visit of the year to Delta Speedway a few weeks ago.

“That night started out well with Blaine qualifying fourth fastest,” Dustin Baxter said. “But he got ran over on a restart and knocked the chain off. Later, he was coming through the field when some cars ahead of him got together and collected him. He went over pretty hard and caught fire. That was tense for a few moments, but he was fine.

“The following weekend we went down south (to Plaza Park) and raced the unrestricted car. I thought that was going to be a transitional class, but it turns out it’s not. A lot of his competitors are older with more experience. He finished 11th both nights and had some good laps racing against drivers who are more advanced than him.”

Blaine Baxter will be off from racing this weekend before returning to Delta Speedway on April 20.
