Four checkers for Pepitone on Monster X Metals Eve of Destruction!
An overflow crowd packed the stands at Birch Run Speedway for the third of five Monster X Metals and Gold Eve of Destruction events at the Birch Run Speedway. The first event was the Push Race, and Justin Pepitone and his Partner Gerry Persails bested Darby Christensen and Doug Hennessy as they crossed the line.
The duo then switched over to Pepitone pulling Persials in the first Pull Race and the result was the same with the win going to them ahead of Josh VanWormer and Jeremy Snyder. Darby Christensen and partner Jacob Mader won in the second Pull Race ahead of Richard Kennedy and Hudson Corl.
The first of two Flagpole races went to Doug Hennessy who finished ahead of Cody Luark and Chris Persails. Justin Pepitone bested Paul Rigda III and Josh VanWormer to claim the win in Flagpole Race number two.
27 drivers entered the Back to School Race, and in the end, it was Cody Luark holding the checkered flag in victory lane! Paul Rigda III, Aaron Abeare, Jason Grissom, and Andrew Burton completed the top five.
Burton went from 5th in the Back to School Race to victory in the Double O Race. Burton methodically worked his way around the four-tenths and third miles, dodging fellow competitors en route to his win. Cody Luark, Justin Pepitone, Paul Rigda III, and Doug Hennessy finished second through fifth.
Burton took the lead early in the Enduro Figure 8 until the red flag was thrown for a collision at the intersection involving Raymond Bland and Jeffrey Asmus. Asmus hobbled out of the car and was attended to by Birch Run Speedway safety officials. Burton took the lead after the red flag but was later relegated to the pits with a flat tire after contact with a lapped vehicle. Gerry Persails Jr. then inherited the lead and was holding off a hard-charging Pepitone when Persials went wide off turn two and spun to the infield past the intersection. Pepitone went on to secure his fourth win of the night ahead of Paul Rigda III, Doug Hennessy, Persails, and Jason Grissom.
The night concluded with the Mid Michigan Mayhem School Bus Figure 8s and Darby Christensen picked up his second win of the night.
The next two events for the Monster X Metals and Gold Eve of Destruction will be held on September 13th and October 5th. On September 13th the night will feature a 60-lap Double O Enduro paying $2,000 to the winner, the Top Speed Motorsports Spectator Drags going for $1,000 to win (open to the first registered drivers), the Mid Michigan Mayhem School Bus Figure 8s and Fireworks (?). Kicking off the action on that night will be the one and only visit by the Must See Sprint Cars tackling the four-tenths mile oval! The October 5th finale will feature a Halloween-themed night of destruction on the Dixie! Stay tuned to the Birch Run website and Facebook pages for more info to be released!
