Jeremy Huish Overcomes Epic Battle with Steven Richardson, Wins at Dodge City Raceway Park

Dodge City, Kansas 5/11/2024 (www.urssracing.com) - The United Rebel Sprint Series presented by RacinDirt.Com returned to Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City Kansas for night 2 of the Thunder on the Plains event. With 15 cars checking into the 3/8 mile facility, the action was intense all night long.

The night started off with single car qualifying. Jeremy Huish out of Jetmore, Kansas was the quickest qualifier with a 14.836 lap time, which was six tenths off of the track record that Huish established back in April at the DCRP Sprint Car Nationals. After two 8 lap heat races and a top 6 redraw, Steven Richardson and Ty Williams drew for the front row, as Jeremy Huish lined up right behind them.

In the opening laps, Steven Richardson opened up the race lead by 4 car lengths before the field started to catch lap traffic. With 10 laps down, Richardson started to make moves around the lap car of Kinlyee Smith, which opened up the battle for the race lead. Jeremy Huish, who started in the third position, was already up to second and ready to strike as Richardson continued to battle lap traffic. Going into turn 1, Huish got a run to the back fuel tank of Steven Richardson, allowing the #20 machine to slide down to the inside and take away the lead for a moment. Richardson got a run down the backstretch and the race was on from there.

Lap after lap, Steven Richardson and Jeremy Huish battled for the top spot before the caution flag would wave on lap 19 for Kinlyee Smiths #10K machine outside of the track. Smith, who had an issue under the green flag, was attempting to pull off into the pits under a high rate of speed, before the left rear tire hit the hay bale on the exit of the track. After a red flag, Kinlyee Smith climbed from the vehicle under her own power before the caution came back out.

With the field bunched back up, the green flag came back out with Steven Richardson taking the lead into turn 1. Jeremy Huish got a run down the back straight away and the battle continued for the top spot. With 2 laps remaining, Huish got around Richrdson on the top turn 1 for the lead. Richardson attempted to slide his car back underneath Huish but spun the car out bringing the caution flag back out. With a green-white checkered finish lined up, it was all Jeremy Huish with the top spot in the final laps. “After the red, we had issues getting the car back into gear, so we had to ride the brake more than we wanted too towards the end” said Huish. “We were racing Richrdson pretty good there, I’m not sure what happened to him, but I'm glad we came out on top” added Huish.
