Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Sept. 28, 2020) – Brian Brown posted a pair of top 15s during the Governors Reign and a top-10 run during a tune-up race at Williams Grove Speedway, where he returns this weekend for the famed 58th annual Champion Racing Oil National Open. The event pays $75,000 to win on Saturday making it the biggest paying race of the year.
Sept. 22 – Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio – Qualifying: 13; Heat race: 3 (4); Dash: 5 (6); Feature: 14 (9).
“We qualified well enough to be quickest in our group,” Brown said. “We had a false start in the heat. That moved us to sixth, but we were able to get to third. We felt good about that. Then we picked up a spot to finish fifth in a dash. In the feature it was not the direction we wanted to go. I felt like we got some good notes for Night 2 though.”
Sept. 23 – Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio – Qualifying: 3; Heat race: 2 (4); Dash: 2 (2); Feature: 15 (3).
“We were third quick, second in our heat and second in a dash,” Brown said. “We felt like we had a good opportunity in the feature. We just didn’t tighten up enough. We ran 35 laps dragging our left rear tire and didn’t get the result we wanted. By missing it there it woke us up a little bit on things we need to do better. I think we were better during the weekend because of it.”
Sept. 25 – Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. – Qualifying: 8; Heat race: 3 (3); Feature: 7 (8).
“I felt like we had a really good car,” Brown said. “In the feature we drove to fifth and then the same thing as Eldora happened. As the race went on we kept getting further left and didn’t have the drive we needed.”
Sept. 26 – Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa. – Qualifying: 4; Heat race: 1 (1); Feature: 17 (2).
“That was an accumulation of the whole week,” Brown said. “Now we have it tightened up based on what our car is doing. Really it was the best car we’ve had for a long time. We went the first 20 laps running second and pacing Anthony (Macri). We caught him in traffic and the yellow came out for the midway break. They had a rule that you couldn’t use a jack during the stop. On a normal fuel stop everywhere we’ve ever raced you can do anything to the car but change a tire. This race was a little bit different and I’ll put the weight on my shoulders for not asking enough questions. You couldn’t have a jack on the track. We jacked our car up to grind our tries for the second half of the feature. There were other guys griding their tires, just not using the jack. The rule was you were sent to the tail. It was a tough penalty, but rules are rules. At that point it was pretty tough to pass. We didn’t want to take a chance at tearing something up with other big races coming up. It’s disappointing, but part of it.”
UP NEXT – Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the 58th annual Champion Racing Oil National Open with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series
“I feel like at times we are faster than in the past, but our qualifying speed is a little off compared to previous years,” Brown said. “We’re going to dig through our notes to see what we’re missing on the qualifying piece. We’ll have our best motor in so hopefully that will be more of an advantage to us. The key to these Outlaws races is you have to qualify well. If you line up third, fourth or further back in these heat races it’s an uphill battle.”
