Five Flags Speedway

New Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship

{nl}In a joint announcement, Five Flags Speedway located in Pensacola, Florida and Mobile International Speedway of Irvington, Alabama have teamed up to form the Sunoco Racing Fuel Gulf Coast Championship with an added points fund{nl}Super Late Models are scheduled for ten races between the two tracks during the 2009 season, and a system of earning points in the Sunoco Gulf Coast points fund as been established.{nl}The tri-fecta of championships will also include the season points championship titles already established at both racing facilities. Five Flags Speedway will crown a Blizzard Super Late Model champion while Mobile International Speedway will name their Miller Lite Super Late Model Champion.{nl}It is conceivable that one driver could win all three crowns or another possible outcome could see three separate champions in the combined Super Late Model division.{nl}Racing dates already established include the April 10 Friday night 100 lap Super Late Model race over the Five Flags Speedway Oval. Saturday night April 11, the Super Late Models will race another 100 lap event over the Mobile International Speedway Oval. {nl}Other Super Late Model racing weekends for the 2009 season include May 22 and 23, June 26 and 27, August 7 and 8 and September 25 and 26. {nl}Additionally, each of the Super Late Model Events will have feature races from other classes of cars scheduled on the same evening. {nl}Twenty-two year old Jeff Choquette of Huntersville, North Carolina is the defending champion in the Miller Lite Super Late Model 2008 series of races held at Mobile International Speedway. Choquette has indicated that he will return to defend his title and will be a participant in the Sonoco Gulf Coast Championship.{nl}The defending champion in the Five Flags Speedway Blizzard series is twenty-two year old Josh Hamner of Chelsea, Alabama who has logged victories at both of the Sonoco Gulf Coast Championship tracks. Hamner has indicated that he too will return to defend his Blizzard Super Late Model title in 2009 and will participate in the Championship that encompasses both tracks.{nl}It is difficult to put an exact figure on the amount of total money that will be offered in 2009 in the super late model series at the Pensacola and Mobile facilities but counting weekly purse offerings, with the points funds added in, Super Late Model Racing approaches the one-quarter million dollar mark in total for the ten scheduled 100 lap races.{nl}For additional information on the Sunoco Gulf Coast Super Late Model Championship visit the websites of the participating tracks: www.5flagsspeedway.com or www.mobilespeedway.net or contact the following:{nl} {nl}Tim Bryant                                                                                                                                                Ida FieldsFive Flags Speedway                                                                                              Mobile International Speedway850 944-8400                                                                                                                                    251 957-2063
