Modifieds to Open with 50 Lapper in April
PENSACOLA, Fla. — It promises to be a night unlike any other for the Modifieds division April 8 at Five Flags Speedway. For the first time in track history, the Modifieds will get their season under way with a 50-lap event. Typically, the first chance the division gets to compete in a race of that length does not come until the Snowball Derby in the first week of December.
Ryan Redmon, of Marianna, Fla., captured the Modifieds track championship at Five Flags holding off Chris Cotto’s charge in the season’s last race. Mark Chrudimsky, of Austin, Texas, hoisted the division’s Derby championship.
Joining the series for the first time this season will be Steve Buttrick of nearby Cantonment. Buttrick, who was dominant asthe Sportsmen track and Derby champion, was out testing his new Modified during testing at Five Flags last Saturday.
He is looking forward to the challenge of a new division and the wrinkle of running 50 laps so early in the season.
“I’m sure coming out in the beginning, I’ll take it easy and follow the other guys for a while, Buttrick said. “If I have to pass ’em on the outside, I will.
