2014 Southern Super Series Schedule Announced
15-Race Schedule Will Feature Stops at Five Venues in Four States; Dan Spence Named Series DirectorCONCORD, NC (December 16, 2013) – Coming off a successful inaugural season in 2013, the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco is ready to tackle it's sophomore season with a 15-race schedule across five tracks in four states. Partner tracks Mobile International Speedway and Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama rejoin with Florida's Five Flags Speedway, Georgia's Gresham Motorsports Park and Tennessee's Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville to present the most competitive Super Late Model series in the south.
To further solidify the Southern Super Series' strength in 2014 and beyond, longtime short track race director and official Dan Spence has been named Series Director. Spence will oversee many of the aspects of competition, event organization and more.
"We had a great start to the Southern Super Series in 2013 and we want to continue to grow and develop the series." said Spence, who has held high-level officiating positions with the All Pro Series, the ASA National Tour, the Southern Super Series and the Snowball Derby in his career. "Not only did we make history with a great championship battle the first year, but we also are returned a touring series to some of the same tracks the used to fly under the old All Pro Series that was started by Bob Harmon. Â
"In 2014 we will return to historic venues for some of the biggest races nation-wide. We are pleased to have the All American 400, World Crown 300 and the Alabama 200 as our marquee events again in 2014. We look forward to another exciting year."
Spence will also return as the race director for the 2014 season in addition to becoming the Series Director.  Spence will serve as the liaison between the tracks and will be the main series contact for teams and drivers. Ricky Brooks returns as the series' Technical Director in 2014, as well. Â
"I know all the promoters and those within the series were proud of the quality of drivers that we put on the track each week," added Spence. "We are looking to expand the series in the coming years without growing too fast.  We have to opportunity to draw from different states and regions at each venue we run at which makes the racing exciting for the fans and competitive for the drivers every time we throw the green."
The 2014 Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco season will be bookended by events at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Tennessee. The season will kick off on April 5 in "Music City," while the historic All American 400 on November 1 will settle the 2014 championship.
The schedule includes four stops at Pensacola, Florida's Five Flags Speedway, the home of the Snowball Derby, as well as four stops at Alabama's Mobile International Speedway. Those dates will once again make up Gulf Coast Doubleheader weekends in April, May, July and September. Those eight races combine for the Gulf Coast Championship Series presented by Sunoco that flies under the Southern Super Series banner.
Gresham Motorsports Park in Georgia will feature two dates, July 12 and the 31st Annual World Crown 300 on August 9. The World Crown has returned to glory as one of the major Super Late Model events in the county because of its extra distance and wealthy purse.
The Southern Super Series will also return to Alabama's Montgomery Motor Speedway for three stops with dates on May 10 and June 28 leading up to the one of the most historic short track races in the South, the 50th running of the Alabama 200, on September 6.Â
