For the second-straight year Five Flags Speedway will host the Miss Snowball Derby Pageant. This year’s contest will give ladies ages 18 and older a chance to compete for the title of Miss Snowball Derby for the 48th Annual Snowball Derby, December 2 – 6 at the track in the panhandle of Florida.
In conjunction with Five Flags Speedway, former Miss Georgia World, Lisa Garvey, has been tapped to direct this year’s pageant.
“This is just the second year of having a pageant, said Garvey, who is also the wife of veteran Snowball Derby campaigner Mike Garvey. “I was a judge last year and everyone kind of got their feet wet, and then they asked me this year to be more involved. I’m a little nervous, but also really excited about it. Pageants were huge for my self-confidence when I was younger and I think, if it’s done right, they can be a huge boost of self-confidence for women today. I want it to be fun and inspiring for the girls involved.
The pageant is open to anyone ages 18 and older and participants do not need to be Pesacola residents. Â The pageant is open to women from accross the country who may be traveling to Flordai for the 48th Annual Snowball Derby.
The pageant will be held on Thursday, November 19th at Beef O’ Brady’s on Palafox Street in historic downtown Pensacola. There will be an evening gown and swimsuit competition and, in addition to being crowned Miss Snowball Derby, this year’s winner will also receive a $500 cash prize.
The person chosen as Miss Snowball Derby will be expected to represent Five Flags Speedway at as many Snowball Derby-related functions as possible. In addition, Miss Snowball Derby will be on hand for all Victory Lane photos, pre-race ceremonies and some occasional fan interaction during the course of the weekend.
“We are really looking for someone who not only looks the part, but has the maturity for it as well, said Garvey. “There is a lot going on Snowball Derby weekend and this person needs to always remain respectful, wear the banner and crown and almost be a host for the weekend with the ability to answer questions and interact with fans when necessary. It is important for them to represent Five Flags Speedway and the biggest short track event of the year in a mature and gracious manner.
Those interested in signing up for the 2nd annual Miss Snowball Derby pageant need to fill out an entry form found here by November 16th. More information about the Miss Snowball Derby pageant and the 48th annual Snowball Derby can be found at snowballderby.com.
