630 Laps, Seven Divisions on Tap During Snowball Derby Week

bombers-five-flags-snowball-derby-cars-side-by-side-537x350Every year when the Snowball Derby rolls around at Five Flags Speedway (FL), most of the attention is on the Super Late Models as they battle to make it in the big show and race 300 laps for the Tom Dawson Trophy. But there are also plenty of other drivers across a selection of divisions trying to find their own glory in Pensacola leading up to the big day on Sunday.

Overall, the weekend will feature 630 laps of racing between seven divisions including the Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Pro Trucks, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Sportsmen and Bombers.

The Super Late Models will feature a wide range of talent, from up and comers like Harrison Burton, Tyler Ankrum and Raphael Lessard. There will also be a host of veterans like Bubba Pollard, Derek Thorn and Casey Roderick who are still looking for their first Tom Dawson Trophy. Past champions such as John Hunter Nemechek and Augie Grill will also be back for more.

It’s a race that nobody wants to miss on December 4 and rightfully so, the Snowball Derby itself has earned the reputation of being the most prestigious short track race in the country.

One of the biggest events of Derby week is the night before the Super Late Models when the Pro Late Models go green for the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 on Saturday night, December 3.  In that race, you’ll see many of the stars that will also be competing in the Snowball Derby the next day.

Past Snowflake 100 race winners include Bubba Pollard, Augie Grill and the defending Snowflake winner John Hunter Nemechek.

Throughout the week and weekend there will also be five different divisions that will hit the pavement at Five Flags for great grassroots racing.

Feature racing kicks off Thursday night after a full day of practice for Super and Pro Late Models.  The Butler U-Pull-It Bombers will go 30 laps followed by The Dock Sportsman who are on for 50 laps of intense racing action.

Friday will be the most intense day of all with the Super Late Models preparing for NASH 102.7 FM Pole Night.  Once qualifying is done, it will be time for more racing as the Faith Chapel Street Stocks and the Modifieds each compete in 50 lap features.

Things continue to heat up Saturday with qualifying for the Snowflake 100. Following will be 50-lap Last Chance Qualifiers for both the Snowflake 100 and Snowball Derby.  Once the fields are set, it will be time for the biggest Pro Late Model race in the country when the Late Model stars strap in for the Snowflake 100.  The Beef O’ Brady’s Pro Truck division will race for 50 laps around the Pensacola, Florida oval at the conclusion of “The Flake.â€?

Sunday needs no introduction.  At 2 p.m. CT, the most diverse and talented group of Super Late Model drivers in the country will strap in for 300 laps and all eyes in the racing world will be on Five Flags Speedway.
