Flurry of Cars Through Seven Divisions at Snowball Derby

The Snowball Derby is known primarily for the 300-lap Super Late Model race that takes place on Sunday afternoon, but the event consists of a whole lot more than just those 300 laps.  Throughout the four days of on-track activity from December 1-4 at Five Flags Speedway (FL) seven different divisions and a flurry of race cars will be searching for speed.

In addition to the over 125 Late Models expected to enter the pit area for the 49th Annual Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100, there will likely be over 125 other cars at the track throughout the week.  The Bombers, Sportsman, Modifieds, Pro Trucks and Super Stocks will all be in competition leading up to the Snowball Derby on Sunday.

For these local divisions, racing on Snowball Derby week is the biggest race of their season.  Just like the Super Late Model drivers hoping to race on Sunday, this is the event the grassroots racers look forward to most each year.  With a big crowd on hand and the prestige of winning during Snowball Derby week on the line, the racing action is always intense.

Drivers from all over the Gulf Coast region and as far away as Maine will visit Pensacola with hopes of turning in a strong performance during the biggest pavement short track race of the year.  Racing in front of a big crowd at Five Flags Speedway and in front of a national audience on Speed51.com, this is their Super Bowl and their Snowball Derby.

At the end of the weekend, the list of over 250 drivers will be narrowed down to just seven winners.

One of those winners will hold the Tom Dawson Trophy on Sunday, while the other six will likely consider the win to be the biggest of their racing career.

The 49th Annual Snowball Derby weekend kicks off on Wednesday, November 30 with the Cat Country/WEAR TV3 Green Flag Pit Party and Qualifying Order Draw Down.

Thursday, December 1 will see the Super Late Models take to the track for the first official Snowball Derby practice.  The night will be highlighted by a 30-lap race for the Butler U-Pull-It Bombers and a 50-lap event for the Dock on the Beach Sportsmen division.

The top Snowball Derby starting spots will be set on Friday, December 2 during NASH FM 102.7 Pole Night.  The Faith Chapel Super Stocks and the Modifieds will each run 50-lap features.

The Pro Late Models take center stage on Saturday, December 3 for the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100. The 50-lap Last Chance Qualifier for the Snowball Derby and a 50-lap feature for the Beef O’Brady’s Pro Truck division will also run on Saturday night.

Then on Sunday, December 4 the green flag will fly over the 49th Annual Snowball Derby. The 300-lap race will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
