Snowball Derby Entry List Hits 70 Super Late Models
Race fans, it’s finally here. Snowball Derby Week is officially upon us. The 49th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida is less than seven days away, which means it’s time to take a look at the entry list for the biggest asphalt short track race one final time. More than 230 cars are entered to race during Snowball Derby Week across all divisions from December 1 through December 4.
Once again, the Snowball Derby entry list is as deep as it is long. Seventy drivers have officially filed an entry at the Five Flags Speedway offices. That means 70 of the best Super Late Model drivers in North America will be fighting for a chance to win the Tom Dawson Trophy.
The Tarheel State of North Carolina claims the most drivers with 16 drivers making the drive down I-85 to the Florida Panhandle. 2014 Snowball Derby winner John Hunter Nemechek headlines the list of notable North Carolinians.
The host state of Florida has nine drivers entered in this year’s Snowball Derby. David Rogers, Jeff Choquette, Dalton Sargeant and Logan Boyett are a few of the notable Floridians entered in the 49thAnnual Snowball Derby. None of the nine Florida drivers entered have won the Snowball Derby.
The Snowball Derby entry list has drivers from 19 different states and two different Canadian provinces. 2016 CARS Super Late Model Tour champion Raphael Lessard hails from St. Joseph, Quebec. Jerry Artuso calls Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario home.
Just three drivers entered in the 2016 Snowball Derby field can say they’ve won the Tom Dawson Trophy. Augie Grill has gone to victory lane twice. He scored back-to-back Snowball Derby wins in 2007 and 2008. John Hunter Nemechek took the win in 2014, and Clay Rogers won the Snowball Derby in 2006.
The entry list for the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model feature is just as long with 64 names entered. More than 10 drivers are going to pull double-duty in the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 this year.
All of the Five Flags Speedway local divisions have strong entry lists as well with more than 20 drivers entered for each division. The Florida Modifieds currently have the best numbers with 30 drivers entered.
Full entry lists can be seen by visiting Schaeffer’s Snowball Central on Speed51.com.
