Justin Bonnett, who was injured in an incident during the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 on Saturday, December 7 at Five Flags Speedway (FL), continues to recuperate in Mobile, Alabama and hopes to be discharged shortly according to a statement released by his team.

In the incident, Bonnett suffered burns to his hands, face and neck, as well as compound fractures of the left tibia and fibula.

“One week after suffering multiple compound fractures in his left leg, fractures in his left foot, and burns to his face, neck, hands and legs, Justin remains at USA Health University Hospital in Mobile, Alabama,â€? the statement reads.  “He is healing every day and remains in good spirits.â€?

Bonnett was involved in a lap 54 incident which started when Jarrett Parker lost brakes entering turn three, spun, and slid up the racing surface in front of traffic.  Bonnett collided with Parker, shearing the fuel cell from Parker’s machine.  The fuel cell then erupted in flames, bringing an immediate halt to the race as the fire was extinguished and track workers rushed to pull Bonnett from his car.

Bonnett is scheduled for another surgery on Monday, with hopes that he can be discharged Tuesday following that surgery.

“Justin is scheduled to undergo one more surgery on Monday to address the burn on his neck.  If all goes well, the family is hoping to be discharged back home on Tuesday.â€?

Bonnett’s family extended its heartfelt gratitude for the support they have received since the incident.

“The support shown to Justin and his family, even one week after the accident, has been constant and has surrounded them with love and comfort throughout this trying week. They would like to thank each and every person that has reached out or directed a prayer towards Justin.  It does not go unnoticed.â€?
