Larry Wight Dominates Fulton Speedway Modified Field For Fourth Win Of 2017

FULTON, NY - July 29, 2017 - Larry Wight was a man on a mission Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway as he totally dominated the 35-lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature.

Wight, started 10th and would only need 4-laps to take the lead. Once out front there was no slowing down Wight as he won by over four-seconds at the checkers for his fourth win in 2017.

Other winners on Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility & Ehrlich Pest Control Night were Will Shields (Sportsman) Mike Stanton Jr. (Sportsman) Kevan Cook (Late Models) Joe Abbass (Novice Sportsman) Kyle Rood (Novice Sportsman) Casey Sykes (Mod Lites) Quinn Wallis (4-Cylinders).

Roy Bresnahan and Tim Harris led the 24 car Modified field down to the green with Bresnahan grabbing the early advantage with racing two and three wide behind him.

On lap 4 it looked like Larry Wight was shot out of a cannon as he blasted from his 10th starting position to the lead on the high side of the speedway.

With 10 laps complete Wight had his car working all over the speedway using the top in turns one and two and the bottom of three and four opening a 2.7 second lead over Bresnahan who raced alone in second. Adam Roberts, Jim Witko Jr. and Ryan Jordan battled for third through fifth.

On lap 17 a quick caution slowed the pace giving the field a shot at Wight.

By lap 20 Wight once again drove away from the field clicking off fast laps. Jordan, Tim Sears Jr., Bresnahan, Jimmy Phelps, Matt Hulsizer were using every lane on the speedway racing for second through sixth.

Over the final 10 laps Wight was hammer down winning by 4 seconds at the finish. Tim Sears Jr., Jimmy Phelps, Ryan Jordan and Matt Hulsizer finished second through fifth.

In the SUNY Canton Sportsman 39 cars signed in the pits setting up a pair of 25 lap features.

In the first feature Wade Chrisman would lead the opening 10 laps when Mike Button took the lead as Chrisman slid up the speedway in turn four.

With 10 laps to go Button held a slim two-car advantage over Will Shields, Ron Davis III, Alan Fink and Chrisman.

Button, Shields and Davis ran under a blanket when Shields made the winning pass on lap 21 for his first ever Fulton Speedway Sportsman win. Ron Davis III, Mike Button, Alan Fink and Wade Chrisman came home second through fifth.

In the second feature Jeremy Pitcher would lead the opening 3 laps when Mike Stanton Jr., who was running the high side of the track, drove into the lead.

By lap 10 Stanton held a slim few car length advantage while Pitcher, Nick Krause and Corey Barker slugged it out in close quarters for second, third and fourth.

With 5 laps to go Stanton saw his lead disappear as Krause, Pitcher and Barker caught the leader, setting up an exciting finish.  Over those final laps Stanton didn’t flinch, hit his marks and won his second career Sportsman race at the speedway. Nick Krause, Jeremy Pitcher, Corey Barker and Jessica Power finished second through fifth.

The roofs came off the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Late Models for their yearly “Topless race. As always, their racing didn’t disappoint in the 20 lap feature.

Chris Fleming and Kevan Cook would swap the lead back and forth, running within inches of each other on the opening two laps with the racing two and three wide behind them.

At the 5-lap mark Cook, running the top of the speedway, opened a five car length advantage while behind him Fleming, Jason Occhino, Bret Belden and Sean Beardsley were putting on a show fighting for top-five spots.

When the race reached the halfway point, Cook was clicking off quick laps, opening a ten car length advantage over Belden.  Homan, Occhino and Beardsley still showed on the scoring tower.

Over the second half of the race there was no stopping Kevan Cook as he went on to his first win of the season and keeping his point lead. Bret Belden, Chad Homan, AJ Kingsley and Sean Beardsley came home second through fifth.

There were a pair of first time winners in the E&V Energy Novice Sportsman.

In the first 15-lap feature Joe Abbass grabbed the win over Matthew Becker, Jake Petit, Brandon Thompson and Ryan Gustin.

The second 15- lap feature would see Kyle Rood go to victory lane. Kearra Backus, Pat Nolan, Kelly Smith and Robert Gage came home with top five finishes.

The 15-lap Firehouse Subs Mod Lite feature saw Casey Sykes and Justin Williams put on a show that would have side by side racing and slide jobs leaving the winner in doubt until the checkers. Sykes held on to the narrow win over Williams. Jeff May, Mike Mullen and Jeff Sykes finished third through fifth.

Quinn Wallis won the 15-lap JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinder feature over Joe Buske Jr., Dylan Curcie, Chris Bonoffski, Nate Powers and Evan Wright.
