Alan Fink outlasts RDIII for First Career Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified Feature Win

By Hannah Doll

FULTON, NY (July 8, 2024)- Saturday night, a large Fulton Speedway crowd witnessed second year Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified driver Alan Fink capture his first career Modified win on night three of the ESS Sprint Speedweek. Other winners from Saturday evening included Davie Franek (Empire Super Sprints), Clayton Brewer III ( DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman), Nathan Peckham (Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stocks), and Austin Harmer (E & V Energy Novice Sportsman)

Jordan Bennett and Tim Harris paced the 35-lap Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified field to the Comfort Windows Firing Point with Bennett jumping out to the early race lead. Bennett would lead the first three laps before Sean Beardsley would bring out a Milton Cat Caution on lap 4.

The field would restack with Bennett and Fink leading the way on the restart. Fink would show the early advantage, edging past Bennett with Ronnie Davis III on their bumpers. Davis used a high-side pass on lap 7 to get around Bennett for second and set his sights on Fink.

From there, Fink and Davis would race virtually side by side for the bulk of the 35-lap feature with Davis on the high side of the track and Fink on the bottom. Each would be scored as the leader on multiple laps and often literally side by side at the line.

A pair of cautions, one on lap 22 and one on lap 27, would slow the pace, but each time the two would continue their on-track battle when the green flag returned. The lap 27 caution would give Davis his best shot at the win. Davis was able to get out in front of Fink on the topside and lead laps 28 and 29. Fink edged back out in front on lap 30 with Davis scored the leader again on lap 31.

Unfortunately for the former track champion, lap 31 would be the last time he would lead. Fink put together four flawless laps on the bottom of the track to edge out in front and ultimately take the checkered some three car-lengths to the good. Davis, still looking for his first win of the season, was forced to settle for second. Point leader Tim Sears Jr. worked his from his 15th starting position to finish a solid third with Lance Willix and David Marcuccilli completing the top 5.

In the Empire Super Sprint main event, Davie Franek walked away with the feature win on the third night of their annual CNY Speedweek. Franek used an early race restart to take the lead from Shawn Donath and raced to a convincing victory in the 25-lap main. Matt Tanner scored solid second-place finish, with Jason Barney coming from his 25th starting provisional spot to claim the final podium position. Billy VanInwegen Jr would cross in fourth with John Smith IV rounding out the top 5.

Clayton Brewer III clinched his first career DOT Foods Sportsman feature win. Advancing from a 10th place starting spot, Brewer took the lead from Austin Cooper on lap 12 and raced unchallenged to the checkered flag. Eleventh-place starter Zachary Buff came home i second while Cody Manitta rounded out the podium. Emmett Waldron and Savannah Laflair rounding out the top-5.

Nathan Peckham picked up his first Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stock feature win of the season, edging out current points leader John Pietrowicz. Adam Hunt crossed the line in third, with Brennan Fitzgibbons and Ronald Hawker rounding out the top 5.

Austin Harmer grabbed his second E & V Energy Novice Sportsman win of the season holding off a determined Kingston Sprague who finished second. James Galarneau, Cale Gareau and Andrew Lewis Jr. complete the top 5.
