Eventful Night at Gas City

Brady Bacon – Eventful Night at Gas City in More Ways Than One!

(Bill W) April 30, 2013 – After turning over in time trials, Brady Bacon and the Hoffman Racing #69 team rebounded for a solid sixth place finish come feature time on Friday at I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Indiana. A Saturday stop at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville was a wash for USAC. The series hits the US36 Raceway in Cameron, Missouri this Friday, and the Eagle Raceway near Eagle, Nebraska Saturday.

Brady timed in on Friday sixth quick, but got upside down on his second lap. “The car was a little tight in qualifying,” he says. “Unfortunately, we got upside down. Fortunately, we did get one good lap in for sixth quick. We had to change the front axle while the officials watched us and then go weigh it after that.”

The Hoffman #69 team went to work immediately to the get the car ready for the heat. “The guys really worked hard to put the car back together for the heat,” says Brady. “Not many teams would have been able to do that, but we have a great one with the Hoffman team.”

The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver started inside row three for the heat and finished out of a transfer in sixth. “The track was still really heavy in the heat,” says Brady. “We started on the bottom, and that wasn’t the place to be. The guys on top had a definite advantage. We weren’t able to get out of it, so we headed to the B.”

After a second place finish in the B, Brady lined up outside row four for the main event. “We had a really good start on the first start,” he says. “I was able to move up a few spots, but there was a yellow and we had to go back.”

The second try didn’t go as well. Brady would still turn in a solid sixth place run with the stout field of cars on hand. “We struggled a little bit there, but we learned a lot about the car going forward,” he says. “We’re still learning each other. We were just a half step behind all night.”

Overall, it was a good night for the team. “We still finished sixth and had a really good point night,” says Brady. “With the way we started, and the way the track was, that was a good night.”

Brady is looking forward to getting to US36 Raceway and Eagle Raceway this weekend. He has midget and sprint car experience at both. “We’re going to some new territory for a lot of these guys and I’m looking forward to that,” he says. “They’ll be out of their comfort zone a little bit, and we’re hoping to do well.”
