Georgetown Speedway ‘Battle of the Bay Thursday, April 16 Canceled By COVID-19

GEORGETOWN, DE – A four-night speedweek for the RUSH
Late Model Series – the ‘Battle of the Bay – has emerged as a favorite for
competitors in the division and race fans in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

Unfortunately,
due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ‘Battle of the Bay event at Georgetown
Speedway on Thursday, April 16 has been canceled in addition to affiliate
events at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del. (April 15), Potomac
Speedway in Budds Creek, Md. (April 17) and Va.s Winchester Speedway (April
18).

“We are all
very disappointed, but this is the right decision at this time,â Georgetown
promoter Brett Deyo said. “Vicki Emig and Mike Leone from the RUSH series have
done a fantastic job with the ‘Battle of the Bay and it has attracted cars
from a widespread geographic region to our facility.â

Georgetown
and RUSH management will examine any open dates to possibly reschedule a
touring series race later in the 2020 season.

Scheduled to
accompany the RUSH Late Model event on April 16 was the Mark ‘Coot Williams
Memorial for the Sunoco Super Late Models paying $3,026 to win. The event will
be rescheduled to another date this season.

“We
definitely want to make up the Mark Williams Memorial Race this year,â Deyo
said. “Well find a place for it on our schedule once we get back to racing.â

The ‘Battle
of the Bay event was also to include Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars,
Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.

The next
scheduled Georgetown Speedway event is slated for May 15 with the Deron Rust
Memorial paying $3,960 to win for the L&J Sheet Metal Modifieds plus
Chesapeake Paving/J.W. Brown Trucking Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,396 to win),
Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks
and Delmarva Chargers.

Keep posted
to the speedway website and social media for updates on that event.

Georgetown
Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the
intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles
from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
