Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race Returns to Georgetown Speedway Oct. 1 for 50th Anniversary Event

GEORGETOWN, DE – The annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car race is returning to its roots for its 50th anniversary.

The event – organized each year by the Delaware State Police to raise funds for the Frankford, Del.-based Camp Barnes – will take place at Georgetown Speedway on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

The half-mile Georgetown Speedway hosted the very first Camp Barnes event on September 18, 1951, a race won by Dick Kauffman. The event continued at Georgetown through 1957 before later being run at the Harrington (Del.) Fairgrounds and Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del.

Since 1948, Camp Barnes has been free to the youth of Delaware, allowing campers to develop initiative and leadership skills necessary to accomplish tasks. The camp also enables campers to increase their self-confidence and feelings of accomplishment from their efforts and achievements.

The 22 edition of the Camp Barnes event will be headlined by a $5,000-to-win, 30-lap big-block/small-block Modified event and a 25-lap, $5,000-to-win Super Late Model feature.

Other divisions scheduled to compete: Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,500 to win), RUSH Late Models ($1,500 to win), Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. Grandstand gates will be unlocked at 3 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6 p.m., with racing at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $20 (Adults), $16 (Seniors ages 65 and up) & Students (ages 13-17), $10 (Kids ages 9-12) and Children 8 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $40 (ages 13 and up), $10 (Kids ages 6-12) and $2 (Children ages 5 and under).

There is a rain date of Sunday, October 2.

Careys Towing will be recognized at intermission for their continued support of the Delaware State Police and Camp Barnes.

Previous Camp Barnes winners at Georgetown include Dick Kauffman (September 18, 1951); Ralph Moody (June 30, 1952); Ken Marriott (July 23, 1953); Frankie Schneider (July 30, 1954); Paul Walker (August 6, 1955 and June 29, 1956); and Pee Wee Poblets (June 21, 1957).

Camp Barnes is located at 37171 Camp Barnes Road Frankford, DE 19945 and can be found online at www.campbarnes.net or “likeâ Camp Barnes on Facebook.

Brown Logging Modifieds, USAC East Coast Sprint Cars, Crate 602 Sportsman, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.
