Amantea Runs Top-10 Streak to Eight at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks

Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (June 9, 2020) – Joey Amantea pushed his streak of top-10 finishes to eight in a row as he finished third in wingless micro sprint competition to go along with a seventh-place outing in winged action at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Saturday night.
“I’m really happy to be running so well and it feels good to be in contention every night,” he said. “That first win is so close that I can taste it and I know it’s not a matter of if but when we find Victory Lane.”
Amantea finished where he started – third – in a wingless heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event. Amantea set up his car up for the high side, predicting that the top of the track would be the best place to run.
While the car was fast, Amantea had trouble making up any ground for the first handful of laps. He decided to try out the bottom lane and he found the low side more to his liking. From there he steadily moved forward and took the checkered flag in the third position for his third top five of the 2020 season.
“We thought the top would be the way to go and the car felt great, but it was just follow the leader up there,” he said. “I probably should have moved down earlier because once we did the car was a rocket.”
Amantea continued to show speed in winged competition. He advanced four positions from the eighth starting spot to finish fourth in a heat race. As a result he lined up 16th in the feature.
Using the lessons he learned in the wingless feature, Amantea committed to the bottom of the track for the duration of the A Main and he steadily marched forward. When the checkered flag was thrown, he crossed the line just short of another top five with a seventh-place finish.
“By the time the winged feature came the track had been run on quite a bit and it was pretty much a one-lane surface,” he said. “Guys kept trying to move around. I just stayed steady on the bottom and with another couple of laps we’d have been talking about another top five.”
This weekend Amantea will once again return to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Saturday to compete in both winged and wingless competition. But first he will run wingless on Friday at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa. Amantea planned to compete there last week, but rain cancelled the season opener.
“I’m really looking forward to getting to Linda’s and I’m hopeful that Mother Nature will play nice this weekend,” he said. “We keep clicking off these good finishes at Greenwood and I see no reason we won’t be in contention there, too. I’m looking forward to another weekend of great racing and I’m hopeful I’ll be holding a checkered flag here soon.”
